Cell phone holsters and 1/4" thick gun belts - doesn't work

#1

Post by johncanfield »

While I love my BullhideBelts.com belt, I discovered there is no way the spring clip on my cell phone holster will fit on the belt so I've been clipping it to my pants pocket which is not a good location.

Those with thick belts - what do you do with your cell phone? Have you found a holder compatible with thick belts? I've carried the phone in an outer pocket of cargo shorts which works okay but I'm not always wearing them. :headscratch

I have a Maxpedition that I picked up at a gun show. Works great on the thickest of belts. Here's a link to one of the several sizes it comes in:
http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/4-C ... -8p440.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Look at the side view and you can see the size of the steel belt clip.

Great - looks like that will work (if they have a size for my LG Nexus 4 phone.) :tiphat:

Thanks! I have the same problem and this should resolve it nicely.

I use a Ballistic Case that fits well on my Beltman belt.

I don't know where you live, but they have some nice leather holsters at:

Thanks but we're in the hill country between Fredericksburg and Junction. If it wasn't for Amazon and the Internet, not much shopping could happen around here (wait a minute - that would mean not spending money :txflag: .)

I have a standard iPhone case that Verizon sold me in their store, where the case snaps into a belt "holster" with a clip that easily attaches to my 1.5" gunbelts, including my Beltman.

This holster explicitly comes with two clip widths and states: "This Duo kit includes two clips - one 1.5 for regular belts and the other 2 wide for duty belts used in Military and emergency services such as law enforcement, fire rescue, and all tough-jobs."

That's my solution too.

A nice bonus is that the holster style metal clip doesn't disassemble itself and send springs and parts flying when it hits the side of today's miniature airplane seats.

This looks like the Otter Box I tried with my old iPhone 3gs - almost lost my phone once when I somehow flipped the phone out of the holster.

Thanks again guys for the suggestions. :tiphat:

This reminds me of the time I was driving from Austin to Houston and came across a couple of Aggies in a field with a telephone pole. One Aggie was up at the top with a tape measure, while the other Aggie was at the bottom struggling to hold the telephone pole up. I couldn't help it. I stopped and went over to make a suggestion, that they could lay the pole on the ground and measure it that way. They looked at me like I was the dumbest person on earth, and said "Oh, man, we want the height, not the length!"

The problem is not the width of the belt but the thickness.

I had this same problem with my Beltman belts, and it was solved when I was getting in a car on the passenger side, whereupon the entire Otterbox Defender clip destroyed itself. The replacement from Amazon was worthless and sent back. I think I will be ordering a Mexpedition http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/5-C ... tm#details at about a third the cost!
Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Unfortunately the Maxpedition won't fit my Google Nexus 4 phone - it's 5.5" high and 3" wide. I did find a genuine leather made in the USA holster that will fit my large phone, yea. The company is Moonshine Leather, they also sell belts, eyeglass cases, etc.

The Maxpedition phone holster referred to in my post above was ordered from Amazon.com and arrived just now. It is just what I wanted/needed.

My iPhone 4S is in a protective case which makes it a bit longer than 4.5" high and 2.25" wide. I ordered the 5" holster and it fits just fine.

Best there is a metal clip that won't be breaking when I get into the passenger side of a car, like the genuine imitation plastic ones have done.

~$22.
