2 Customers Find Gun Store Clerk Dead

A clerk was gunned down inside a northeast Harris County gun store Thursday, sheriff's deputies told Local 2.

Two customers found James Cornelius, 32, behind the counter of the Southern Firearms Store on Bear Bayou and Pecan shortly before 4 p.m. investigators said.

"We don't know if there was any money taken. There's a cash register there that's open and there's nothing inside. That appears to be possibly the motive at this time," Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Bruce Williams said.

Cornelius was the gun store owner's son.

Police have not named any suspects in Cornelius' killing

This brings back memories. My friend Walt whom owned a gunshop in Bellaire was shot and killed in his store many years ago. :( His wife closed the store for good after that and I never heard from her again.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Cornelius. I hope the scum responsible is caught soon. :x

I remember a gun shop in Bellaire back in the early 60s, the owner had a crippled arm and liked to break strings at long range with an old 45-70 could this have been your friend Walt? I visited his shop several times when I was working in that area.

I worked in Bellaire back then and I bought a couple of guns from Walt. After he was murdered, his wife tried to run the store for a while, but it wasn't the same.
