Leather Belt Maker - Anyone Have Hopp and Beltman?
I've basically decided on a Beltman 1 1/2" double layer horsehide belt for price and stiffness. Kramer is more than I want to pay. However, Beltman offers 4 colors, none of which excite me. The brown is too dark, the saddle tan is too orange. I'd rather have what Wright Leather Works calls Walnut. Or a more medium brown. I have some footwear that is similar to the walnut but maybe with more of a blonde tone to it that I have seen called "Tobacco" other places. I'm guessing I shouldn't get the natural one and try to dye my own. For you color challenged men out there that don't want to admit that you know what colors I'm talking about, you can call it Shiner Bock colored.
Alternately, Hopp Custom Leather makes lots of custom colors with some airbrushing (don't know how that holds up over time though) that look more like the medium brown or aged tobacco/walnut looking colors that I like. Does anyone have a Hopp Belt? I'm curious if it's as stiff or as well made as a Beltman.
I have a Comp-Tac kydex reinforced belt, a Tucker double layer bullhide 1 1/4", a wilderness tactical 5 stitch, and Hank's Amish belts. The Hank's belts are single layer, but do stretch or take a shape over time and are not stiff enough for my taste for a 5" all steel 1911. The Tucker belt is pretty great for stiffness, but the finish on the black is cracking (?) and flaking - it's a few years old. The Comp-Tac belt is "meh" - not stiff enough since the kydex doesn't go all the way around, but a decent value and good enough for small and medium sized pistols. I'm picky. My Tucker is the only one that passes the test where you hold the belt in one spot and the holster and gun do not sag. Reference link below for picture of the sag test.

I have had a beltman horse hide 11/2 with Velcro liner for about 4 years now. GREAT belt!! They take a while to get but worth it.

Beltman is awesome. I have one in black and one in what they used to call Oxblood.

I have Beltman belts in black and some version of brown for some years, although due to ahhh, errr, uhhh, factors beyond my control, I haven't worn them in a few years.
Now that my doctors are limiting my food intake, I can wear them again, but not yet with room for the IWB holster and me both at the same time.
They are great belts, very stylish IMnotalwayssoHO, dignified and professional looking, very high quality.

I have a Oxblood Beltman. Very happy with it. Planning on buying a black one. I carry IWB.

have both a Beltman and a CompTac. The Beltman has been an everyday wear for the past two years. Great belt.

I own 3 beltman belts so I'm not just blowing smoke.
Check with A&G gunleather, I believe it's a better belt... prices are same as beltman, but prettier and finished nicer. (stiffness of my A & G belts, exceeds beltman in apples to apples belts.)
Al also has a quick ship line for standard options.

I had seen a couple of other posts on A&G. I'll have to look into them.flechero wrote:I own 3 beltman belts so I'm not just blowing smoke.

I haven't worn a leather gunbelt in a while. I used to use a D.M. Bullard belt, but I "outgrew" it......so to speak. The belts I have had the best luck with are synthetics. I have the Instructor Belt from The Wilderness. The one I have now I've had for years and it still maintains its shape and is comfortable to wear. Downside? It doesn't match my custom made holster from Hopp Custom Leather.

I just got my first Instructor belt and I have the exact same problem in that it doesn't match my Hopp holster either. At least the colors are the same. The Annoyed Man wrote:I haven't worn a leather gunbelt in a while. I used to use a D.M. Bullard belt, but I "outgrew" it......so to speak. I will say this, Hopp's workmanship is first rate and I wouldn't hesitate to order from him for a gunbelt or another holster. Just don't expect to receive it anytime soon, his popularity has soared over the past year.

I own four belts from http://www.thebeltman.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They are the only belts I wear, in fact I have now donated all my other belts to charity. I wear with suite and tie or with cargo shorts.

I've never had a Beltman belt so I can't give you a comparison, but my Hopp belt is AWESOME! Here's a link to some pictures I posted of the rig. One of them shows me holding the belt with the gun and holster attached. No sagging there! I highly recommend his work. It's first class and well worth the wait.

I've had the most basic beltman belt you can get for about 3 years now and I love it. I wear it all the time. It is a very worthy investment.

Re: Leather Belt Maker - Anyone Have Hopp and Beltman?
I recently purchased one of the quick ship belts from A&G custom gun leather after seeing reviews on this site and the belt is great quality, it shipped fast and I even received a call to let me know it was on the way. I previously used a Crossbreed belt but I prefer this one, I would definitely recommend them http://agcustomgunleather.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
