UN Programme of Action on Small Arms and Light Weapons

After much preliminary investigation in to impact of small arms on civilians and societies around the world, the United Nations convened a Conference on the Illicit Trade of Small Arms and Light Weapons in All its Aspects in July 2001. The purpose of the conference was to decide on steps nations should take to prevent the illicit trade in small arms. Non-governmental organizations, under the umbrella of IANSA, along with other groups, took a prominent role in the conference, presenting evidence on the difficulty in separating legal and illegal transfers, and calling for tough controls on both state and non-state weapons sellers. The result of the 2001 conference was a Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects. The Programme requires member nations, among other steps, to:

- Make illicit gun production/possession a criminal offence
- Establish a national coordination agency on small arms
- Identify and destroy stocks of surplus weapons
- Keep track of officially-held guns
- Issue end-user certificates for exports/transit
- Notify the original supplier nation of re-export
- Disarmament, Demobilisation & Re-integration (DDR) of ex-combatants, including collection and destruction of their weapons
- Support regional agreements and encourage moratoria
- Mark guns at point of manufacture for identification and tracing
- Maintain records of gun manufacture
- Engage in more information exchange
- Ensure better enforcement of arms embargoes
- Include civil society organisations in efforts to prevent small arms proliferation

Round 1, went our way...Round 2 will certainly be a repeat...

Whats obvious is that the "international weenie patrol" is not going to stop...ever...

I think it was John Bolton who stood up against this crowd last time...Thats another reason he is not too popular among the internationalist crowd...

We obviously need to turn him loose on them again...Should be fun to watch...

Did you see Rebecca Peters and Wayne in the UN gun debate? That was classic. Listening to Rebecca Peters rant really put the whole international situation in perspective.

Should be a must see for all the hunters and shooting sportsmen out there who think that they'll never try to take their 'sporting' guns.

I pay per viewed the thing, and taped it...Voted in the online poll...

I'm a sick individual I guess...

Whats funny, is that Ms. Peters is sooo short she had to have a platform to get to the lecturn to speak...

At one point the audience started to sound like the house of commons with all the gufahs and harrumpfs...

Mr. Wayne handed her her rear (can I say that??? ) on every aspect of her agenda...Even challenging her at the onset with a very telling illustration of the hypocracy of the international anti-gun movement...

This was a classic...

Now how am I going to get my tape back from my Dad...Glad I took out the recording tab on the tape...

My Dad's up in Quitman, Texas...I'll ping him to see if he hasn't fed the tape to some critter up that way...

Lemme see if I can track the tape down first...

Be careful though...The copyright commandos will give us such a pinch...
