I have to brag and tell yall about the gun I ordered on vacation.

On my trip to Big Timber, I ended up ordering a Shiloh Sharps Sporter #1. It is pretty basic, I did add a steel butt-plate, forearm bedding, sling swivels, and mid-range tang sight with a globe front sight with spirit level. I got it in .45-70. (shilohrifle.com)

It should be ready in October of 2006, so you guys waiting for your CHL are lucky  .

Great looking rifles. I have never seen or heard of a spirit level on a rifle. Are there any modern rifles using them? Would they be helpful using a scoped rifle?

I am going to have to stay on that site for a while just for the music. :D

Very useful. They're used by benchrest and long-rang competitive shooters to avoid canting the rifle. There are some scopes with built-in levels.

Humor me...

Is "canting" the same, or similar, to "roll", in say like an aircraft terminology???

I can then understand how that sight configuration works if thats the case...

Thanks...

Exactly. If it's canted, the sights aren't level & plumb.

For a long-range shooter who might be holding over, the vertical crosshair not being truly vertical can introduce significant windage error.
