The owner of Tactical Firearms in Katy, TX was on 740 AM this morning. He was in favor of the proposed ban on buying ammo over the net.

He said something to the effect of " if it quiets down the anti-gun crowd for a while, I am all for it".

What a tool!

1. Like filling up a bathtub with a thimble, the anti-gunners get their way a little bit at a time. They will never be satisfied until only crooks are armed.
2. No doubt the guy really hopes to eliminate on line competition so we are forced to pay higher prices at the brick and mortar stores.

I support my local gun shops , gun shows and do my share of business on line as well. But to be sure, Tactical Firearms will never see a dime of my money.

I wonder if his position has anything to do with forcing more people to buy ammo from his store? Selling out gun owners for your own profit never works.

We have do to FFL transfers for guns now so who knows if they'll add ammo as well for FFL transfers.

Many moons ago I had an FFL. Back then we had to keep a record of all ammunition sold with name, address and driver's license number of the purchaser. This is starting to look like a great leap backward. In those days you couldn't buy reloading supplies, or ammunition by mail without an FFL this was before Al Gore invented the internet. The most of my business was bulk sales of bullets, primers, brass, and powder.

Back when I still lived in Pasadena, California, we had "ammo registration" for a while. The city passed an ordinance requiring all in-store ammunition purchases to be recorded. The buyer's identity had to be confirmed, via CDL, their address recorded in a book, and then the quantity, caliber, brand and lot number of all ammunition purchased. One day I made a buy of maybe 200 rounds of .45, some .44 magnum, some .22LR, and some .308, and it took longer to fill out the paperwork than it did to pick out the ammo and pay for it.

What caused the whole blasted scheme to fall apart was that the ordinance also called for the Pasadena PD to collect and maintain the records from all the stores in the city, and then the city cut the department's budget so that the chief had to choose between staffing squad cars or staffing the records room. He finally announced that the city council could do whatever they wanted to him, but he simply wasn't going to enforce the ordinance any longer, and he didn't care what their reaction was to be. He also pointed out that in suburban SoCal, someone could simply drive another couple of miles and buy ammo outside of Pasadena......and give their business to a sporting goods store that wasn't part of the Pasadena tax base. He also gave a mildly pro-2nd Amendment statement at the time. He was a long time and well respected chief, and the city wasn't about to fire him or discipline him over it, and they quietly let the matter drop. A few months later, they repealed the ordinance without announcing the repeal.

Motives

I vote with my money in cases like this. I have gone into their store at the old location and again a couple of times in their new location.

Service and prices: Strike one (old location), strike two and three (new location). This opinion just about the time I was actually thinking about checking them out again......Nope!

I haven't been that impressed with them the time or two I've walked into their store. I won't be going back.

This is the worst kind of "pro-gun" stance.

As said above, putting profit ahead of the rights of gun owners never works.

I can imagine if such a restriction were to come about, off the shelf prices for ammo would rise 20%(or more) overnight.

Maybe a better idea would be to sell ammo with a minimal markup to draw people to your store and treat them well to retain them as a customer... same as any other business does.

I for one won't be sending any of my money to Tactical Firearms in Katy as a result of his comments. I'd rather see one business who supports such restrictions go under than to see ANY member of the gun industry support the opposition.

The guy could have stood against such shenanigans and as a result gotten much better publicity. As a business owner, he's going to learn a hard lesson from this. Bite the hand that feeds you and you'll starve.

As others have said, they are just trying to boost their own sales and yes a tool, I have been in there twice and the attitude of the staff is terrible, the gun store commando attitude is high and so are the prices. The new range they have is nice but at $30 an hour I prefer to go to other places
