Best Gun Store in Town?

Hey guys,

I have been to a couple of gun stores this week. My usual place didn't have what I was looking for so I decided to try a different, popular gun store. They didn't have it either, and the experience being in there was poor. I'm not trying to run anyone down based on one trip, but it did get me wondering what the best gun store in Austin is.

So, why not put the question up for the whole forum....

What town are you in? What is the best gun store in town? and Why?

The best I have found in DFW is an online retailer grabagun.com. I order online and select 'local store pickup' at their Coppell, TX office. They have great prices, great seelction and great service in my experience.

Austin & DFW--GTDistributers. They are hands down the best service I have ever received. I love going there.

in Marble Falls I'd guess Bowles Custom Muffler (and guns) across from WalMart, I haven't been in Highland Lakes Taxidermy (and guns) to see what they have though. Oh yeah ... WalMart.

+1 on GT Distributors. Great prices, great service and without a doubt it is the safest place in town. It's always packed with LEO's.

My favorite is lowpriceguns.com in Bellvue, WA. I used to live in Bremerton, WA...these guys are top notch, are a small business and have very reasonable prices. If I can get it cheaper or close with the FFL charge I will get it from them. As far as local, ie... Pearland, Houston Ive only bought once since moving here and it was from a guy at the Reliant gun show ...sorry.

I like spring guns and ammo. Decent prices, very respectful and takes care of their regular costumers. Even had the owner wave the range fee a few times. Good service goes a long way with me

I had not heard of this online store before, they have pretty good prices, no credit card fee and low shipping, I will be using them. Thanks!

For Austin being a little different than the rest of Texas, I feel like we could do worse than what we have.

McBride's and Cabela's have never had a problem with me fondl.... er handling as many firearms as I care to ask for. Both stores have always had ample personnel behind the counters to facilitate that experience. I'm always cognizant of how difficult it must be for the employees to have what must be 100+ lookers to every one buyer. Staff at both stores have always impressed with their knowledge. Cabelas of course is huge and has plenty beyond just firearms. McBride's has a wider assortment of firearms that anywhere else I've ever been.

I have purchased more than one firearm from Austin Academys, but I don't really go there to look or talk shop. I also haven't purchased anything from them since I became a more discerning gun shopper. Their experience isn't what I'm looking for - back then I wasn't even thinking about the gun buying "experience". Actually, upon reflection, that seems odd, since my first gun purchase was from Academy - you'd think I would have been more enamored then than now. Huh.

I gotta +3 GT Distributors. newTexan, if you haven't been, you gotta go. I've bought guns, ammo, and all variety of accessories from them and always have a great time. I've also had them do work on firearms for me and been pleased with the quality. It's my favorite email list to be on; they have a semiannual clearance event I hate to miss. Their regular prices are good too (sub $400 for new glocks - but they won't sell those to just anyone: http://www.gtdist.com/ProductDetail.asp ... CK-PG17502" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). I've only been to the Austin store. It's such an experience, my family is always sure to go when they come to visit from out of town.

I mostly purchase firearms online or from individuals these days and utilize a one-man FFL shop but he doesn't have a storefront.

Speaking of which, OldCannon, do you have a storefront? I'll come see you tomorrow if you do! =)

Nope, no storefront, but everybody seems to like visiting the Old Cannon Mancave :)

I got into this to help my fellow shooters have a fast and easy gun purchasing/transfer experience. I'm MUCH easier to work with than Academy or Dicks

Nice! I like to stay local rather than go big retailer like Academy, Dick's, Wally world or go on line. I have to admit I've given in to lower prices and availabilty at times. I have pruchased locally from Carter's County, Margurger's and a friend who has an FFL that sells/builds a lot of police tactical AR platforms. I have purchased a lot on GunBroker as well, though they mostly used vintage weapons. I noticed that Carter's Country has eliminated their caveat regarding no sales to under age 21 on AR's and tactical SG's.

This is sort of off topic but I thought it best to continue off the general theme here rather than start a new thread.

I've been doing a search on the site on GT Distributors and I love their prices but almost all of the items that I want to buy are highlighted as LEO only. Does anyone know how much they mark up the LEO advertised price for civilians? I've emailed them and I'm waiting on a response but I thought I would see if anyone on here has any experience with them.

Thanks!

GT has been kind of high on some of their prices. A few years ago I bought a 92FS police special. I got it from a police distributor in Florida and they were cheaper than GT, and that was before taking off all the money I saved from taxes by buying out of state. I have bought from there on equipment, but have always been able to find cheaper than their gun prices.
