Today the wife and I went to gander mountain in spring to window shop and see the simulator and range set up. It looked nice from what I saw to busy to talk to anyone so I stepped over to look at the guns just as busy if not more with only 2 maybe 3 guys behind the counter. Sorry for the set up but here is ?. There were several kids (6to12) hanging out while parents were waiting for help at the counter and everyone knows that gander mountain has used guns on the floor in easy access to look at. 3 of the kids decided to pick up a shot gun and sweep every customer at the counter also simulate shooting each other with machine guns noises. Since I couldn't get anyone at the counters attention and without wanting to cause a problem by correcting someone else's kids (had a kid point a gun with laser grips at me at a gun show dad did not understand why I was not happy with the red dot on my chest as all guns at the show are unloaded ) I walked to a different section and said something to them. I don't know if anything was done, got tired of waiting and left. So what would you have done.

...any kid that would have done what you described could easily have slipped a round in the chamber, too...stupid of GM to leave them where someone could handle them...that's even rare in a gun store these days...makes for fat lawyers...

I would have told the kids to put the ---- shotgun down and to stop playing with guns. Then I would call out the parents and make a medium to medium-large scene about what the kids were doing.

I'm sure you were being serious there, but that made me laugh hysterically.

I would have raised a major scene too. I don't care if they are kids or a 50 year old man. I am not tolerant of getting muzzle-swept and I am not shy about expressing myself.

Isn't it a crime for parents to allow children access to firearms unsupervised? Period?

I wasn't raised that way, but I am pretty sure that is how it is nowadays.

...this one would fall on the store...just one lawsuit and they'll change their policy...with them, it's about $$$$$$...a letter to the GM legal dept at corporate MIGHT do some good...

I'm not sure what I would have done but if I brought it to the attention of the parents or store employees and the parents got upset I would ask them if they would pickup a gun and point it at me and act like they were shooting me. Yhen I would say don't let your kid do it eather.

I'd make some kind of scene. Give the kids and parents something to think about.

Man there is some funny replies to this. Well you did the right thing if you want to go by the book "first line of defensive action is retreat"

At that ages ranging from 6-12 I would be asking them if they checked the guns to make sure they were unloaded or were waiting to the kill someone to find out? I would have loved for them to get a parent involved so I could ask them the same thing. I have never been to Gander Mountain but Walmart is the only place I know that locks up ammo. So whats to stop one from loading a gun? Or just being over looked like a story told in one of these responses?

I stopped going to Bass Pro shops in Grapevine for something similar and they have locks on their triggers. I wont even let my kids touch ammo at home let alone a gun at a store unsupervised

Academy here just moved all their handgun ammo out on a counter that is not always in a salesman's view. It would be stone simple for someone to sneak in with their handgun and load it up out of sight. And if that were an irresponsible kid or angry person...

Make an example of them. Video it and post it on youtube with the name and address of the store.

Never been to Gander Mountain but the way I read this they have guns were anyone can pick them up?
And, I assume, they have ammo out on the shelves?

So some ID10T could go to the ammo isle, pick up a box, walk a few rows over and load a firearm?

I HATE lawsuits but this is just too stupid and irresponsible if I am reading this correctly.
