XDm Compact in 45ACP - opinions anyone?

#1

Post by straybrit »

So - now that I have my plastic I have to buy a new gun. Sad that

I've done my background reading and a bit of comparative shooting and my my current top of list choices are the G30 and the XDm compact.

45 because I like them - I shoot them in competition so I can reload for them and I don't like the recoil characteristics of any 40 that I've shot (personal preference - that's not a general value statement).

What I haven't managed to do is actually shoot the compact XDm (I have shot the full size version and like it) so I'd really appreciate input from anyone who has.

Thanks
Derek

I use it as my every day "truck gun" carry. It is actually a back up for me as I keep it in my briefcase as a second. Very reliable

I have that gun in 9 and love it! Needed the pinky extension for the small mag tho. My girlfriend wants one now too after shooting it.

The XDS in 45 ACP got really good reviews at the shot show. I really want to see that one.

Well, it's a .45. What's not to love?

I have and XD 9sc. It is a great EDC. I am amazed at the accuracy of the SC. Everything I have seen would indicate that the .45 is really good.

Have, carry, love it, more then 1,000 rds down range since I picked it up early 2010

EDIT: Arrrg, poor reading comprehension on my part.. I missed the m .. I have an XD Compact, not the XDm. Sorry for the confusion.

So in order to make up for it.. I just placed an order for an XDm Compact in .45 to be picked up when I get home. .....
I did not know they had released it to the open market.

Finally got down to the range with it today. Put 100 rounds down it - goes bang every time you pull the switch. Recoil easily controlled even with the short mag. All in all I'm very pleased with it.

Try the Pearce Grip Extension (for the XD .45 - it works the same on the XDm) on that small magazine. It really makes the gun more comfortable in the hand because the pinky finger doesn't have to curl anymore. XDm .45 ACP compact is a great carry gun.

I'll freely admit that I am a spoiled 1911 person. But, I'll also admit that I love my XDM-45 compact.

You cannot go wrong with a Springfield, well made product backed by a great company. The interchangable grips are an added bonus as you can make it fit almost anybodys hand.... buy, shoot and enjoy, you will have no regrets.......

Good info in this thread, I think a Springfield is going to be my next purchase, I was thinking if I should get an XDm Sub Compact or wait for the XDS.

My G30 gets a TON of carry time. I love it, I love the way it shoots, I love the way it carries, I love the big giant holes it makes.

I'm a Glock fanboy, no doubt. I've shot the G30 and the M&P .45compact back to back. G30 won out.
I've shot the G30 and a full size XD .45 back to back, and the G30 won out.

The thing about the G30 is the grip takes getting used to. For me, the grip is not as comfortable as the XD was, no where close. The Pierce grip extension did wonders though. If you can deal with the fatter grip, I say G30.

Here is my reasoning:

1. Glock. Enough said.
2. Cleaning is easy. Take slide off, throw lower in the dish washer, clean the barrel, spring, and slide. Takes 5 minutes.
3. Accessories are easy to come by.
4. I have never had ANY type of malfunction with the G30. Period.

It's a personal thing. If you are anywhere near San Angelo, I would be happy to let you run a few mags through my G30. Go shoot one for sure, just to compare them.

I bought one a couple of weeks ago after trying a couple of options at the range. The XDm was my favourite!

Last weekend I used it for my CHL qualification. Scored 240/250.

I have a custom leather IWB holster in the mail, should be here tomorrow! Plenty of time for me to CC in the house before my card arrives.

Straybrit, I assume from your username that you too are British. Where did you come from? How long have you been here?
