Hey guys, im going to attempt some work on my M&P and i need some punches...

can i (should i) get a good set of punch tools from a local hardware store? or does it need to be a pistol oriented manufacturer?
Academy? gander mountain? bass pro shops?

I assume you're working on M&P pistol and not an AR type weapon ...

If so basic punches from Lowes/Home Depot will work for the frame pins. But if attempting to remove sights, you'll want to heavily tape these punches and even use some leather or something in between to protect finish. May be difficult to remove sight this way. Better to use non-maring brass punches (or even polymer) and even better to use a sight pusher.
