CC a 5" 1911?

#1

Post by RottenApple »

I'm not yet fully familiar and comfortable with the manual of arms for a 1911 and so won't be carrying my new Kimber for awhile. But I am interested in opinions on the concealability of a 5" 1911. Right now my EDC is a full sized Sig P220 w/ rail in a Kholster Full Moon so I'm comfortable concealing somewhat larger pistols. Anyone have any advice?

Many here do it successfully.

One of the best features of a 1911 (besides being a .45  ) is how slim it is. If you go IWB, length is rarely an issue.

Occasionally you might feel it more while in a seated position, but that can be reduced by adjusting the cant to suite your needs.

5 inch 1911 in a crossbreed supertuck for me.

I can do it in just cargo shorts and a t shirt (my usual wear) if its a big shirt, or sometimes have to throw on a button down shirt over. In winter, its even easier. A hoodie or light jacket and it just disappears completely.

If you conceal a P220 now, the 1911 may be a little easier.

5 inch Kimber Eclipse I use a Crossbreed also. The 1911 is so slim you dont have to go get extra big pants. If your jeans are a little loose that will probably be plenty of room.

Yeah, if you carry that Sig already, then I assure you it'll be a lot slimmer and a bit more comfortable. Like I said before, I carry the same exact weapon you have, and the only down side about carrying it around is it getting scratched, etc. I only carry the Kimber when the occasion calls for it. I feel so bad, because it's my baby. I don't want to scratch her.

Just like any full size weapon, it has it's ups and downs. A 1911 is just right for a full size. Slim, beautiful, and comfortable. Just like me. :biggrinjester:

Enjoy your Kimber, man. You'll love it, I assure you.

And stop rubbing it in to this community that you got a Kimber Stainless. You're making everyone want to secretly buy one and that's gonna get them in trouble w the wife.

As a matter of fact, I'm gonna look at the Eclipse carry now. Thanks. :totap:

It's like the Pace Picante commercial. "This 1911 is made in New York!" LOL

I have carried a double stack 1911 concealed before, I laugh when people say "so and so gun is too big to carry concealed". I carry a 5" STI Trojan concealed in a Crossbreed SuperTuck. You just need to learn to dress around the gun - a small price to pay for security.

I carry a Kimber Custom TLE II, which is a full sized 1911, in a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe 90% of the time with no issues in triple digit heat.

Full size 1911 carried in a TDM Series IXtm IWB holster.

I laugh when people say "so and so gun is too big to carry concealed".
