Got a really good deal on a glock 23 only to get it home and discover a broken rail on left rear. Looks like its going to work out well. Talked to glock today. Appears it is a known defect for that production year. For the cost of shipping them the gun they are going to put a new frame on it and take care of any other worn parts.

I love my glocks.

I had heard of this with G22 and a few G17 - mostly older Gen 1 or Gen 2 guns. But yours is second time I've recently heard about this with G23. What model year and/or generation?

Gen 3 - E series serial number. Guessing 2003.

My Glock 23 was my first Glock purchase and like you, I got a really good deal on it. When I bought it, it probably had less than 50 rounds through it and the factory copper grease was barelly missing. It's funny though, I've seen quite a few model 23's in all the various generations around $375-$425 used and I always wonder why about that particular model.

I don't want to hijack the thread, just wanted to share my affinity for this particular model Glock.

Glock tech was very nice. As soon as I said broken rail he said fedex it and they will put a new frame on it. Will be interesting to see what else they do. The night sites are deem but not sure if they are even factory. When I get it back anything that hasn't been replaced I replace myself with the exception of the slide which appears to have little wear. Basically when it's all said and done I should have what amounts to a new gun for a fraction of the price.

That is some customer service I tell ya. Not...well what type of ammo are you using, are you limp wristing it or something, or have you read the instruction and safety manual prior for operating the firearm?

I had the same thing happen with a Sig 226 several years ago. When I contacted them, they said to send it in and they would assess it. They said all they could do for me was sell me a refurbished gun.

Shipped the g23 by fedex today. $63.00! At first they said I had to be a dealer to ship it. Once I convinced them that it was ok since I was shipping it to glock, they insisted it had to be shipped priority overnite. Now I understand the overnite thing but does it really have to be there by 10:30?

Several years ago I had to ship a gun back to Taurus for repair. I used UPS but had the same issue, next day air with early delivery. I later learned that UPS had been having problems with internal theft of guns being shipped. Their solution was to move them through their system as quickly as possible to reduce the opportunities for theft to occur.

The cost of shipping is one reason I go to an FFL and have them MAIL a pistol for me if the manufacturer doesn't send a pickup slip. If its a long gun I simply mail it myself.

They basically re-built my whole Glock 22 when it broke a rear frame rail and I was only out the shipping charges(2nd day air). Took about five weeks to get it back. Now I have what I call my Gen 2.5 Glock ( Gen 2 slide on Gen 3 Frame)

I shipped a handgun at fedex yesterday, and the only thing they requested was the handgun be disassembled. When I took it out of the case the lady knew exactly what make and model it was. I was impressed. Depends on where you go.

BTW...Smith and Wesson pays shipping BOTH ways.

If you don't mind violating FedEx or UPS policies, there is nothing in federal law that requires you to declare a firearm to a common carrier if you are shipping to an FFL.

I had several people suggest that i just hand them a box and not tell them what was in it, but I had read Fedex's rules before I went and felt I needed to abide by them. I slept very well that night. I'm not too upset about the $63. Glock has already told me they are replacing the frame and they will go through the entire gun. When I get this thing back it will be as good as new. Considering the deal I got on the gun and the extras that came with it, I will be smealing like a rose.
