The above link goes to page 6 of this week's Academy handguns on sale.

IMHO:
The 3" Rossi .357 revolver for only $249.99 is a good deal for someone who wants
a more versatile wheelgun than a .38. For the price of one Smith and Wesson revolver
you can buy 2 of these Rossi's and have 10 rounds of .357/.38 on tap.

The Diamondback .380 is only $299.99 but IIRC the quality is low. Just because
something's cheap does not mean it has value.

Smith and Wesson's "Allied Forces Disaster Kit" - I wonder if they ever sell any of these??

"Sig Sauer 2022 Basic Handgun" - This to me is very poor marketing. On one hand, why
put a mouse gun number like "22" as part of the model number for a 9MM handgun?
On the other hand it's described as a "Basic Handgun" - that doesn't sound very appealing.
Who wants a boring gun?

Well, they have 8 handguns on sale this week, but I shan't comment on the other 4.

Happy shopping all you shootists. I hope something here catches your eye.

I actually messed around with a Rossi revolver the other day and that thing had a really stiff trigger. It was a bit jerky too. Not the worst but then again for a little more I'd buy a Taurus. The 2022 is actually a decent little pistol for the money. I'd feel comfortable carrying one.

I have a Sig 2022 it is a well made reliable gun much better than the price point would suggest. Carry it from time to time. Rossi revolvers are not worth the money buy either a Taurus, S&W or Ruger.

There are only two guns in that ad I'd spend money on the XDm and the Sig 2022.

gregthehand and MoJo:

You both would prefer a Taurus revolver to a Rossi revolver.

But since Taurus owns Rossi, aren't they basically the same gun?

That's like asking since GM owns both Chevrolet and Cadillac aren't they basically the same car? Rossi's fit and finish is no where in the same league as Taurus'.

I wonder what's in the S&W Allied Forces Disaster Kit? Besides the pistol, that is.

Actually they are different. One difference is that the Rossi typically has the firing pin pinned to the hammer where the Taurus uses a more modern system with a transfer bar mechanism.

You get a Sigma pistol, a crank radio/flashlight some dried food (says enough for three days) and some other "survival" stuff in the disaster kit.

It was my first pistol as a civilian and the price is what drew me in. If the trigger was better, it'd be a great, inexpensive pistol. I just couldn't get over it. I always shot low and to the left with it...then I tried a Glock and XD. World of difference.

As for the Rossi, I've had the 351 (Snub Nose .38) and thought it was a great pistol. The only reason I sold it was to satisfy my other addiction, fishing. I'd buy another in a heartbeat. Sure, it's no S&W...but for the price, it's a nice knock-around pistol.

I like my SIg 2022, seems to be a quality pistol. "Basic" means no Night SIghts and some other things(not sure at this moment what they are). But it's the same pistol just without some extras.

BTW thats the "everyday price" on the Sig, it's not on sale

i've heard bad things about the Rossi revolvers too. i went in looking to buy one a while back and the salesman actually talked me out of it, told me he'd recommend a Charter Arms revolver to the Rossi.
