I'm looking for a compact 9mm semi for my wife that is easy to rack as she has had surgery on both of her hands due to corpal tunnel syndrome. A revolver is out of the question

I've seen a pretty small (petite) woman handle a Glock 26 very easily. You might let her try one at a range that has rentals. In fact, before I bought ANYTHING I'd let her try it at a range that has rentals.

Just out of curiosity, is she trying to rack it by pinching it (slingshot method) or with a full grip (overhand method)??

Have her try an XD. If she can't handle that one, I have to repeat an earlier post about stepping down to a .380.

I'd have to agree. If she can't rack a 9 mm using the overhand method then you probably won't have any choice but to go to a smaller caliber.
You could always teach her how to rack the slide on her belt. In my opinion that's a good thing to practice anyway.
Out of curiosity, why is a revolver out of the question? I'm not a big revolver fan, but it seems that a revolver would eliminate the problem with racking the slide.

I just noticed that you're in Dallas. If you haven't been there already, it might be worth your time to go visit DFW Gun Range on Mockingbird or maybe The Bullet Trap in Plano. I know both of those places have lots of rentals. They would probably be willing to let her try racking the slide on various pistols and then if she finds one that she can work they could rent it to you to see how she shoots it.
Just a thought.

I used to have a Beretta 92FS, and it was quite easy to rack, however, it is quite a large weapon and doesn't conceal too well. Maybe she could put it in her purse.

Look at an S&W 3913 LS or an S&W 908/908S. All the same gun the LS is the "LadySmith" model the 908 is the "Plain Jane" version the "S" is stainless. They are fairly easy to rack, very accurate, and reliable as the sunrise.
may be small but...

The tip up barrel of the Beretta Tomcat 32 may work. Why not a revolver?

+1 on the S&W 908.
Probably the easiest to rack compact 9mm I have ever seen. A nice, trustworthy pistol too.

I'll second this advice. I took my wife to several ranges to try different guns. The one she finally picked was not on "My List" for a woman's perfect carry piece.
