New Sig about to hit the market... P290 a pocket 9mm..

#1

Post by Salty1 »

Just got some information on this new Sig, going to place an order for some and get to the front of the line, they seem very promising as the P290 will be a pocket pistol. If as advertised should really cut into the 380 market, now the question is what the price will be, as we know Sig is not shy of their prices...

That's really cool. It is about time someone made a 9mm in a pocket size design. I have wondered why it did not happen sooner. Now if they just pretty it up a bit and not price it through the roof, they should sell as many as they can make.

Looking at the specs, it's longer, wider, and significantly heavier than the Kahr PM9. I guess Sig fans will love it though.

:iagree: I will check into this model. After I see some consumer reviews and holsters for it. ;-)
I don't expect a small price, just because it's a smaller gun. I will guess that the price is about the same as a P239, maybe $50-100 less.

WildBill,

I would not be surprised to see SIG take Kahr's pricing model of smaller means more costly, which could mean from a few $ to a few hundred $ more.

It's hard to say with certainty, but I imagine the protruding mag release will be a huge negative for pocket carry or IWB. Whoops the magazine fell out!

I see that too, my P238 loses its mag while in my pocket. I hope this thing is more reliable than my P238 also. I am not impressed with its performance so far.

If I was to venture a guess I would expect it to be priced around the same as the P250, somewhere in the $500.00 range. The polymer frame should keep the cost down versus the P239.

Both guns have a width of 0.9in, sig tells you that the slide release protudes another 0.2in, but I can't find that data for the PM9 (only gives slide width). The sig is also shorter, and has the option for a bigger magazine (6-8) verses the kahr (6-7). Also, I'd probably prefer a heavier pistol of that size chambered in 9mm.

I'd have to shoot both to say which I liked better (the Kahr is shorter with a longer (0.1in) barrel) but I wouldn't write off the 290.

Sig lists it's overall length at 5.5" and Kahr lists the PM9 at 5.3" So, at least according to the manufacturers, the Kahr is shorter. Also, the Kahr PM9 accepts all Kahr 8 rd 9mm magazines.

Sorry, I meant shorter in height, not length, thanks for pointing that out.

If you have not seen a Rohrbaugh, you might want to take a look and see if if fits your definition of pocket pistol. Does mine. Unfortunately it does not fit the definition of "in my budget range." :cryin Last I looked it ran about $900 to $1000 or so.
