I am drving from Austin to Houston this weekend and have some time to spare. Are there any gun stores that you would recommend hitting on 290? Are there any gun shows in north/west Houston area. Thanks for any help you can give.

Jim Pruits Guns and Ammo is on 11101 Huffmeister just off 290. I have not been there myself yet, too far from Alvin. I don't know of much else on the NW side. Collectors Firearms has the most but they're on the SW side.

My favorites in NW Houston (I reside here).
Tomball Pawn in Tomball - Fair prices, great selection.
14011 FM 2920 Road
Tomball, TX 77377
Spectre Firearms off of 249 and Spring Cypress - Best prices on Glocks I've seen outside of gunshows, not sure if it was permanent or sale pricing, but they were the same the 3 times I've been there. Great selection of accessories. I have experienced great service the three times I've visited, friendly atmosphere.
10801 Spring Cypress Rd. 14
Houston, Texas 77070
Gander Mountain off of 290 - Best place for cleaning supplies and sporting goods, but prices aren't that great. Selection is decent if you're window shopping.
19820 Hempstead Hwy
Houston, TX, 77065
Armory Management and Supply Services off of FM1960 and Jones between Hwy249 and Hwy290 - I have not been here personally, but I've heard good things about them.
11010 Jones Rd.
Houston, Texas 77070
And if I'm not mistaken, the only gunshow within Houston's vicinity this weekend is Real Gun Shows in Pasadena, but that is Southeast Houston.

Thanks for the information folks. I am actully meeting someone at Gander to pick up a gun I bought from him so I will check it out and probably try to hit a couple of the other suggestions also. I need to get a drawer size safe for my pistola.
Thanks

Good people, good selection. Kind of pricey though.

Just as you come into the outskirts of Giddings on 290 there is a place on the right called Tejas trading post. Nice guy and usually a good selection for a small town store. It's easy to miss if you are not looking for it.

on the first two on this list. Gander I have only been to once and that was looking at bows. I was unaware of the last one. My usual spot is Shooter's Station off of 105, but they are the outskirts of Conroe and likely too far north for your drive. They are great folks there.
