Any Opinoins on the Sig Sauer GSR?

#1

Post by Suckhow »

I'm considering picking up a new Sig Sauer GSR. I suppose it makes sense, considering that I love 1911's and I also love Sigs. It looks like a new Limited Edition 2-tone is being released this month.

Any thoughts from you folks?

Any idea on actual pricing, as opposed to the MSRP of $1,153?

Be a little careful with the GSR. There was some talk on 1911forum.com about widespread problems with them, as well as similar talk on one of the Sig boards (can't recall the name).

The slide and receiver are/were Caspian and they have an excellent reputation. I was interested in getting one, but have cooled on the idea until I learn more.

As for price, Bachman Pawn & Gun (largest new gun distributor in Texas) had them at one of the HGC shows for $900 +.

Regards,
Chas.

FWIW, I'm already seeing "refurbished" GSR's at gunshows. You know, the sigs in the red case with the blue band around the grip. Not just one or two but dozens. I counted 14 at the Fort Worth gunshow and at least that many or more at the last Market Hall show.
The GSR hasn't been out long enough for there to be that many refurbs available.
I like the gun but I plan on waiting a couple of years before I buy one, and even then it's going to be a NEW one, not used or refurbed.

There were a lot of problems with the hammer being cock-eyed and rubbing on one side of the beaver tail when cocked. I know a lot of people on sigforum had to send theirs in for that reason, although sig's customer support can't be beat, still a pain in the rear to send a new gun in for repairs that it shouldn’t need. I know there was a post on sigforum saying that sig was in the process of retooling a lot a of the operation in order to do more of the work in house (but that was just hear-say). Now if you just want a .45 nothing better than a P220ST or SPORT.
