Ok, I expect a range report, especially one comparing it to the XDm-40.

Someone in a recent thread mentioned that it was "rumored"
that SA was going to introduce an XDM in .45 later this year.
But it's already here - cool beans.
Does anyone know if this model will be for sale, retail,
anytime soon?

YYEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!
Well, better start putting back a few bucks here and there, because I'm gonna have to have one!!
I've always said if/when they make an XD-m in .45acp, that I'd get one, posthaste.
Must have. I'm excited. Does anyone know what the capacity is going to be?

Their web site says 14 rounds (so perhaps 14 + 1)

So...ummm...this is essentially an XD45 with the option to change backstraps on the grip?

If the only improved capacity I get is 1 round....even 2 rounds, I probably will not be buying this.
I feel a little deflated now.

American Rifleman had a full writeup on it.
Match Grade barrel
Match Grade Trigger
13+1
Grips are more textured than XD
Interchangeable backstrap.
I like the XDM 9mm I have better than the XD. I will be getting one. But I will still carry the Kimber.

The XDm-45 has a 13+1 capacity (Mags interchange with the XD). Now when the XDm first came out I clearly remember everyone crying "The mags are not compatible with the XD..." now those same people are crying because they are the same as the XD (Read the threads over on XDTalk to see what I mean).

Since the thread started by Matt saying he has one in the store for rental, I am guessing they are currently available for sale also. He can probably give you a price by PM if you ask.

When you click on the link above, you get SA's home page,which includes
a field in which you can enter your email.
The entry of your email will allow SA to send you some kind of information
on where you can purchase an XDM45. They don't really explain what they
will give you, though.
If I get something from them, I will share it on this thread.

Im glad they kept it interchangable with the XD mags. I love my XDm in 9 and .40 and want to add the .45 to the family but i have 25-28mags for my 2 other XD-45's Its nice to know im still stocked up when i get the XDM45

So I did a small range report for the XDm .45 in comparison with the XDm 9mm because it was the same full size. I didn't want to compare it to the .40 cal because it is the 3.8in barrel and I didn't think that would be fair.
To start off I was very surprised and pleased that Springfield put in the effort to keep the XDm .45 as slim as the others instead of bulking it up for the larger cartridge (unlike the Glock 21, 30, Para Ordinance Carry 12 and Tac-Four, etc). I was also pleased with the 13 + 1 mags given how skinny the grip is. The rest is pretty much XD standard fair, three dot sights, front slide serrations, etc. I didn't play with the backstraps too much as I have small hands and tend to leave them as small as they come.
I couldn't really decide on how I wanted to test the accuracy on the .45 compared to anything else so I settled on the Texas CHL certification distances since this is the CHL Forum
I fired separate 5 shot groups at 3yrds, 7yrds, and 15yrds into a target with 3" circles on it. The results are posted below (note I was having a little bit of an off day and absolutely fell apart at 15yrds so keep that in mind).
A = 3yrds, 5 shots
B = 7yrds, 5 shots
C = 15yrds, 5 shots
Like I said I fell apart at 15yrds but all in all I was pleased with the accuracy. Compared to the CHL Target (B-27) this pistol will shoot x-ring all day long. The recoil was extremely manageable with the long grips. The only negative thing I found was the way I shoot my thumbs lay right over the slide lock and on 1 occasion the slide didn't lock back on the empty. Of course that is a strictly shooter specific gripe and shouldn't be held against the XDm. All in all I give it 2 thumbs up and continue to be impressed with the XDm line of pistols.
I haven't seen any available for sale yet with our distributors but they have listed a price and it looks like we can get it for about $630 when they are available. I would also keep an eye on GT Distributors if you are near Austin they will probably have it at a pretty fair price.
Shoot safe, Shoot straight,
