How much ammo to bring at forum day

#1

Post by RPBrown »

I've already PM'd Charles with this question but thought I would get input from others.

How much ammo should I bring with me? 200, 400-500 rounds?

I usually put about 300 rounds in my bag...if that is not enough, I will go buy some more!

300 rounds is about what I was planning on also. Couse I may end up bringing two guns, don't know why, just because.

Reading PSC rule (5)(E)(3), I guess we cannot carry our CCW around with us loaded since we'll be using it on the firing line?

Sorry, I've been out all day and I just checked in. I'll check the PM's later.

That's a good question, but I really don't have an answer. The majority of ammo will be used in open shooting, rather than in the shooting clinics. It's really up to each person how much they want to shoot, but I'd think I would bring at least 300 rds. You can really eat up the ammo on the Texas Stars!

The way I read that (someone who knows for sure, please correct me if I'm wrong), we can carry a loaded CCW as long as it stays concealed and we don't use it on the range. We'd have to use a second gun to shoot with.

I guess that's as good a reason as any to go shopping for a new boot gun.

That's correct. Sorry JLaw, I missed your question.

The PSC rules were changed from a totally cold range to allowing CHL holders to carry their loaded handguns. Since range rules require guns to be unloaded except when you are on a hot firing line, a CHL holder has to keep their loaded gun concealed so as to avoid non-CHL holders from being confused. If you are carrying the gun you are going to shoot, then it has to be unloaded.

Very good, at least that's cleared up. My only other question is this...

I plan on attending the "Drawing and Shooting" class, I assume we will be able to wear a holster (concealed or open?) and practice technique in that bay during that period of instruction?
