Well I Finally Did It, My First Day of Carrying

#1

Post by bigolbigun »

Well it is now official today was my first day of concealed carry. I bought a Springfield XD Sub about 3 weeks ago. I have been carrying it around my house empty to get the feel for it. I don't have in IWB holster yet but it fits very well in my cargo shorts front pocket and with a long untucked shirt it is almost invisible. Anyway I went to a couple of stores and the mall with my wife today. I was a little nervous at first, and worried about printing even though there was none. But after a couple of hours I became more comfortable. Even at my family gathering today no one could tell. Anyway not to ramble on but today was big day for me and I wanted to share it with people who could appreciate the feeling of carrying for the first time. I'm sure it will become as routine as puttting on my shoes. I have recieved lots of great info from this site. Thanks for listening.

Congrats! You may want to look into Comp-Tac holsters for IWB or OWB.

I have ordered my wife a couple of different things from Comp-tac...their customer service is second to none. The company puts everyone else to shame in this department.

It is hard for me to judge the level of comfort for the kydex stuff IWB..I am more of a leather guy, but I agree that they have become quite popular. I believe my next purchase is one of their twin mag holders.

BTW, they send you free candy with your holster......gotta love that!

Congrats, it's only been a few months since my first carry day. Now it's just like my wallet, I don't leave home without it.

I've been carrying for a week and it gets easier and easier, meaning I think about it less and less. I try to look whenever I happen to be next to a shiny car or a mirror and I can't even tell. With most people not even looking fro it, it's practically invisible even if there's a slight bulge.

+another for the Comp-Tac. Of all the holsters I have, my C-TAC is the most comfortable. Quality is superb and you can't beat their (in most cases) same day shipping policy. I waited 5 weeks for a Blade-Tech and was supremely disappointed when I received my UCH. Comp-Tac products rock!

Congrats on making through the agonizing wait!

Congradulations on the special day! I remember mine well.

You're right, it will get somewhat routine. Your roommate, girlfriend, wife or whomever may see you walking out of your room while strapping on to go run aaronds will get used to it as well.

I find times where I have to check and make sure it's still there.(H&K USP 45) When you find the right holster for you, you get that comfortable with it.

Enjoy!

It's been so long now, that day has just melted into the rest of them.

It's just second nature now to have my weapon with me, somewhere, somehow.

I have an XD Service, and have been carrying around the house since I'm waiting on the CHL to arrive in the mail. First, get a good, strong belt. The basic slide holster the Springfield furnishes is OK, but not the best for concealment. I found a good OWB holster in the Comp-Tac FBI paddle, an OWB Kydex holster that fits securely over the waistband and the slide and muzzle is outside the pants and covered by the holster. It works very well and I can conceal the full size pistol under a large shirt and it is surprisingly comfortable. It seems to me, so far, that OWB is easier to learn to use than IWB. I have thought about getting the XD SC, since it would be easier to conceal.

Congrats. That first time legally carrying is like the first time driving your first car, or your first date. It's really a special time.

BTW it just gets more expensive. You'll never have just one carry gun and each gun must have a holster or two.
