That video is designed to create the "emotional factor" in those that view it rather than to give any real information.

It would have been more definitive it they identified the manufacturer of the safe and model number that they pried open so that you would know the gauge of the steel or if it was steel plate (which I doubt).

Many safe's are of the same design of the one the pried open. They are actually RSC's (Residential Security Containers). Low priced ones as well as high priced ones. The type and thickness of the steel makes the difference in what can be defeated quickly and what will take some time (10-12ga -vs- 1/4" or greater Plate Steel).

That being said, all safes can be broken into. It just takes longer for some.

Also, an RSC is what most of these "gun safe's" actually are and that means they are not real safe's. Real safe's cost much more and weigh much more and made of steel plate (not thin 10-12ga sheet steel).

Bottom line is........the guns in a RSC are a bit safer than being in your sock drawer and a RSC takes a bit longer to open.

If'n your going to get a gun safe don't go to the nearest, cheapest place to get it. There's a reason they are cheap.

The first "FAIL" in that video was when they knocked the safe over on its back. they had to do that, because there was no way they could get enough leverage to pry the door open without using gravity in their favor.

If your safe isn't anchored to the wall and/or floor, shame on you. I suggest putting all your ammo, lead, and reloading supplies inside as well. The more weight, the better.

This is also a good time to point out that focusing on the fire rating, rather than the metal specs, is foolish. If two safes weigh the same and one has a higher fire rating, that means they've replaced steel with sheetrock.

I read some advice somewhere that recommended not only bolting to the floor, but locating it near a corner so a wall keeps anyone from being able to get clearance for a prybar under the side of the door that opens. It seems a resourceful person could come up with ways to make the door jam less accessible to prying. It is still sobering to see how fast those guys got into it.

Looks like a crappy safe to me in that video. Caveat emptor.

One thing to consider though -- no safe is theftproof. Battery-powered cutting saws (about $500) and class 4 cutting lasers (about $1500) can easily do the job on the "higher end" safes.

Something doesn't look right to me. When they get the door open, look at the back of it. It looks like a panel has been removed from the back of the door and the door is basically flexing. This would allow them to more easily pry the door out.

While I agree you should buy a decent and well built safe, I call shenanigans on the video and think they doctored the safe to be able to get into it easier.
