i am left handed and i use my middle finger as my trigger finger i am a young dude and this just became natural for my LEFT hand when i shoot with it from playing paintball...

i was wondering if anyone else uses it or has any thoughts on it

That doesn't interfere with the slide on autos? For that matter the side blast from wheel guns? Just curious, seems like you could have developed a potentially painful habit.

Well handguns aren't paintball guns. Shoot with whatever finger ya want to, tho - this is the U.S of A.

I'm bettin' it will only take ONE incident to make ya a convert to the "more traditional" methods of pulling said trigger, however..

HAHA - I so know what you mean. I played tourney ball for 3 years of college (studying what???)

I would recommend AGAINST it...try to break the habit if at all possible. With a marker, you keep your wrist bent, hands and arms tucked in tight, almost like a ball. In combat shooting, where your life is on the line, proper form is more of a squared off fighting stance, arms fully extended, weight on the balls of your feet. This will also help brace and support the weapon and recoil for quicker follow up shots.

With markers there isn't any recoil, and no advantage to squaring off. It also gives you a more rifle like aim (though once you're good at snap shooting with a pb marker, it will feel like an extension of your arm).

It is also shown that under combat stress, regardless of training people will default to some form of combat fighting stance, with the body squared off to a degree, and your dominant foot slightly back.

Boy howdy, no kidding! Pain can be an excellent incentive for correcting bad habits!

Slide bite...much like M1 Thumb, is no laughing matter. OK maybe it is until it happens to you.

You should use your index finger; it gives you better control and a stronger grip.

Every gun I'm the least bit familiar with is designed to have the trigger manipulated by the index finger.

Seems like I've read discussions on the "point your index finger at your target" method. I don't recall reading any proven advantage to doing it. But like others have said, a little pain may be in your future.

The fact that you favor your sinister hand (me too) has little to do with it other than you are further negating all of the effort that manufacturers put into ergonomics; gun makers, grip makers, etc., etc. all assume you will be using your trigger (a.k.a., index) finger on the trigger and work hard to optimize 'feel' and control. If you are young, then you are pliable; I would suggest you try and shift your habits now before they become even more ingrained and haunt you in the years to come.

i have never had slide bite or any trouble shooting a revolver. i am going to stick with my middle finger on long guns but for hand guns especially my bersa i am trying to go back to the index finger... but i do know what you mean about things such as recoil because i am only gripping the pistol with two fingers.

i just played paintball in the Dallas area mostly in north richland hills.

Grip control is one,slide bite is another.It seems like it's not a win win situation.I will change it if i were you.It just my suggestion.

Take it from someone who knows. Get a good shooting coach and break these bad habits ASAP "before they become even more ingrained and haunt you in the years to come."

I have never played paint ball. What about a paint ball gun would make one shoot using the middle finger? I have looked at a few paint ball guns and they looked to be designed to shoot with the index finger.

I have been to a local gun club and they do that on the shotgun ranges, trap and skeet, but the pointer finger is the one on the forend, not the trigger. I've also seen the Olympic and college shooters do this.

I'd say index finger is best.
