Looking for a reputable gunsmith for Remington 700

#1

Post by cyphur »

I bought the gun used, and as such it has a few minor imperfections. I can live with all of them but one - the rear swivel stud is damaged. I would like to see this replaced as well as a good once over. I may also look into having the trigger tuned as well as a brief how-to as I have an adjustable jewell trigger installed(came with the gun) and would like to learn how to adjust it.

Appreciate any help!

Hi again ,Cyphur.. I use Jay at McClelland Gun Store off Centerville.
214-321-0231.. They are quite busy this time of the year because of deer season is just around the corner....This is the Centerville that crosses Garland Rd. near Casa View area, right by the railroad tracks..Anyway, just call them and ask for Charlie, I believe he is the owner/manager and he's a real nice guy.. Jay is their gunsmith but he's hard to get on the phone... Good Luck and hope they can help you..

My buddy back in VA sent his bolt (from a Remmy 700 LTR) to someone in Del Rio, TX. They reinforced it and put a large beavertail on it too. I'll find the info for you and post it when I can. Apparently this smith is pretty well known on other forums for this work.

ReySC, you can call me Travis. Heck, everyone here can. My parents didn't name me "cyphur" - thats just the handle I have on a dozen other sites

I will have to give them a call. I may swing by B&S guns this afternoon to see what their gunsmith would charge. As long as they don't try to sell me the other Rem700 they have there, I'll be ok....

Swung by B&S guns this evening - gunsmith was there - Steve I think? Anyhow he pulled out the old stud and put a new one in no problem. Took about 10 minutes in all, including a good bit of discussion. Was quick and easy :)

On the way out I grabbed some snap caps in .45 and a speed loader, gonna need it for all the rounds I'm gonna put down range in the next month!!
