OK, so an interesting trade opportunity has been presented to me. I would receive a Sig Sauer P220 Combat model which is single-stack .45 ACP. Been studying this gun on net for an hour or so and seems to get good reviews. Seems like a well-built, accurate, reliable pistol (as all Sigs are supposed to be, right?) Would easily become the largest semi-auto handgun I own and not really sure what I'd do with it other than range and home defense gun. Seems too big for almost any concealed carry situation (though I realize there are those of you who carry guns this large and larger).

Only Sig I've ever shot is a P239 rental gun at Red's. Didn't shoot it all that well, but I'm not used to he DA/SA type trigger (I'm a Glock guy).

Anyway, looking for any feedback from anyone who has experience with Sig in general and the P220 series and/or Combat model in particular.

Also does this seem like a good deal? I'd basically be giving up "value" (cash and trade items) to the other person of about $750. I think these guns are about $800 to $900 new, and this one is about two years old, about 500 rounds through it. Will come with 20-rounds of HP, an 8-round and 10-round mag, and a Serpa holster.

Sigs are great guns but they cost way too much. For what you would be are paying for one used SIG you could buy a new Glock 21 and a case of ammo.

Yeah, that's sort of my feeling about it too. And it's not really one of those guns "I've always wanted" like a 1911, an H&K USP 45 etc. If I was ever going to put down the money on a Sig, I think it would be the SS style P229 in .357 Sig (I have a weird fetish for owning the same guns that LEOs own)

The 220 is a great firearm, I own 2 of them and personally will never consider owning a Glock. The 220 triggers are fantastic and they are very accurate. There is no comparison to the 220 and any Glock, the Sig 220 is a bit pricey but most of the time as far as firearms are concerned you get what you pay for. If it is too large then that is one thing and to carry it concealed is not much more difficult than a full size 1911, it is just a bit thicker. It comes down to what you are used to and what is acceptable to you and what you are willing to pay..... To each their own......

The 220 is one of my favorite guns to shoot, the trigger is very nice, and it is very accurate. Normally it will shoot a little larger than a fist sized grouping at 7 yards, and that's two handed, not on a bench, not slow firing.

Overall, I would recommend it.

Sigs are/were the mercedes of 9mm type pistols. Sig 226s were accurate, reliable and a leading contender in the military purchase competition that Beretta won, because Sig did not have a US plant at that time. Sig x-Fives are still a standard for accuracy.

I have a 229r in 40 cal. I love it. I would recommend that you try one before you trade for one. What one person can shoot comfortably another one might not.

I'm an XD fan and when I bought a Sig P220, I was amazed. It is so comfortable to hold and I am most accurate with it among my pistols. I put 50 rounds into a single hole about 2 inches at 7 yards. I will never sell this gun.

Well I already sold the gun I was going to use as partial trade for the P220, so it's not going to happen right now. But I did finally get to hold one at the Austin gun show last weekend and it was smaller than I thought it would be - similar in size to a full-size Glock 17 or 22 and smaller (at least grip size) than Glock 21, which has never felt comfortable in my hands.

I liked the feel of it. But this particular model up for trade was a newer "combat" edition that just seemed to have a lot of "extras" that would probably be very important if I was serving high risk warrants or battling insurgents in the sand, but are probably overkill for what I'd use the gun for. Seems some older less "tacticool" versions of this gun can be had for $500-$600 instead of the $700-$800 trade value I would've ponied up for the "combat" edition.

Sig makes some impressive guns. I'd like to own at least one before I leave this rock, but I've got plenty of years ahead (and hopefully more earning potential/larger gun budget for "wants" once all of my "needs" are met).

Can't stress the feel of the trigger enough. I've been through numerous range qualification days and shot a wide variety of weapons in my personal and professional life. Sigs are incredible guns. I firmly believe you get what you pay for in a gun. A sig feels $300 better than a glock EASILY to me - and this is coming from a person that carries 2 Glocks on his person on a daily basis.

Glocks are a great value, but if you can afford a Sig I recommend it.


Another analogy is Toyota is a great car, reliable, and so on. But, if you can afford it, a Lexus is a much nicer experience.

The price seems fair-ish. For a gun that size I would immediately add CT laser grips and a streamlight TLR-1 and make it a home defense weapon.

Own Sig P220,P226,P239 and SP2022.They all shoot very accurate and very solid.The only draw back on the Sig is the price.If you can live with the price then go for it.I much prefer the solid feel of the full metal gun over others.Thant's just how I feel not speaking for other people.

A friend of mine has a Sig 220 that he bought used as his first, one-and-only gun for home protection. I trained him to shoot with it and the excellent ergonomics and trigger are a testiment to how quickly he became proficient. it is likely more accurate than most who shoot it. My only complaint, as with the 229 series, is the DA first shot makes for a long trigger finger reach for my small hands (I traded my .40 239 in for a .45 HK USP Compact for that reason). All that said, if it feels good to you, go for it.

Get it! I guarantee you will not regret it. All this talk about it being to expensive is a bunch of hewy. You get what you pay for. And it is worth it. Besides you buy a life saving tool for its economical value. A "good deal" won't do you any good if you're dead. I have had both a p220 and a p229(currently own). I have had an XD, a Ruger, some Taurus's, currently have a Kimber Pro Carry, have also had a berretta and a few glocks(23, 31, 21) and none of them compare to the glorious wonder that is a Sig. Ok, so that last bit was a little over the top. But seriously, if you were forced to have only 1 handgund for the rest of your life and it was a sig, you would not be dissapointed.
