Crossbreed question

Hey yall.

Have any of yall tried to 'tighten' your crossbreed with the heat gun trick their instructions recomend? I tried to do mine today and it didnt work. Mine has almost no retention....even after following their instrutions. Any other tips or tricks?

I've not tried it, but I bet if you just call Craig with Crossbreed, he could provide additional information. You're using a true heat gun, right?

I did it to two of mine last weekend. It is easier if someone helps. I just used a simple hair dryer. The point of retention seemed to be in the trigger area. I just had my son heat that area as I periodically pushed down on the trigger area. It eventually moved down and sure enough...it held my pistols better. It takes a little more heat than you think to make it soft enough to bend. too much and I hear it will just collapse.. I used a teaspoon to push down with because it was hot on my thumb.

P.S. I pushed down in the center of the dimple of the trigger area.

I guess I was lucky...mine fits like a glove on my Kimber .45 pistol.

I just received my third Crossbreed in the mail today and read the instructions for a change. They basically said what I posted. Put the UNLOADED gun in the holster, heat the trigger area for a couple minutes. If it starts looking shiny, you got it to hot...start over. Otherwise, once it gets warm, push down on the center of the trigger area. This will tighten the holster. He also mentioned that if you didn't want to do it yourself, send it to him and he would do it for free. you pay shipping. I would call him before sending it back. Try doing it yourself though.....it is actually real simple.

I'm not sending it back, it aint that bad. I'll try it again, guess I didnt get it warm enough....I was afraid of getting it too warm. Thanks.

Played with it alittle more and got it where I like it. I just needed to not be afraid of ruining it lol. thanks for the coments.

... I was worried about melting it the first time I did it. They don't melt so easy.

I have tightened the retention on my Crossbreed. I tried it with a hair dryer at first, without any success. I went and bought a heat gun at Home Depot and that did the job very quick. What you'll need to know is that when you heat-up the kydex, it will "rise up" and will lose the original shape of the gun. That shocked me at first...I thought I ruined it. I think I got it too hot, but I was able to recover.

Note: You need your gun in the holster when you do this. Make sure you remove all ammo first!! Follow the instructions from Crossbreed and cover the exposed areas of your gun with a damp rag.

I tried it again and as the kydex started to raise as it softened, I removed the heat gun and used a shop rag, and pressed down hard on the kydex against the gun, and concentrated on the trigger area, as I wanted more retention than it originally had. The result was awesome. The kydex hardens quickly, and I was able to press all the detailed characteristics back into the kydex. I've worn it for several months and have had zero problems.
