What gun for IDPA and general questions...

I'm considering one of the following:

1. Glock 19 -- I'll be shooting SSP w/ this one. The trouble is, from reviewing past scores (for this local club), SSP seems more competitive than CDP!

2. S&W 1911 -- I'll be shooting CDP (I think) and I'd like to use 10 rounds, but they stick out and I think IDPA rules doesn't allow that.

My gun choices are limited by my available holster. I don't have a legal IDPA holster for the 1911, but I'm willing to go buy an UM.

This is going to be my first IDPA shoot, and I don't care where I end up on the scores list, but would like to be less near the bottom. Maybe since this is my first IDPA, I should just go w/ what I have and use the G19.

(Actually, I bought the G19 UM holster _just_ for IDPA but circumstances prevented me from going to a match until hopefully this Sunday.)

If you're comfortable with using the G19 from the holster, then I'd take it. Besides, 9mm ammo is cheaper. Just don't holster it loaded with your finger on the trigger  ;-)

You can always take your 1911 some other time when you get a holster for it. CDP is limited to 8+1 rounds. So you'll have to run downloaded... but it's what I do with my USP45.

Go. Be safe. Have fun!

It's a blast! I still remember my first time. Was great to do things that you just can't do at ordinary ranges.

Since this is your first IDPA shoot, I would also reccomend the G19. You already have a holster for it and who knows you might not like shooting competation (I doubt it but it could happen).

One bit of advice for your first shoot. Don't worry about time at all. Your concentration should be on safety #1 and accuracy 2nd. Speed will come in time.

Have fun and be safe.

Thanks for your advise, and I think I'll stick w/ the Glock this Sunday.

Although I've never shot an IDPA match, I did shoot a carbine match that used IDPA rules and didn't like it. But I'm willing to give IDPA a try since so many on this board seem to like it.
