New showtime series: Lock n Load

I don't know anything about this, other than it is being heavily advertised, including a full page in Guns magazine.

Showtime cable network: Lock n Load, Oct. 21 8pm ET/7pm CT

They say it's a "surprising look inside an American gun shop." With the staff's active participation, hidden cameras in a busy Colorado gun store and range record the more "interesting" customers & conversations. The on-line preview features a scene in which a man shopping for "an assault rifle" announces he's a postal worker to a salesman who reacts for the camera. I don't want to criticize the thing prematurely, but the on-line previews make it look to me like they're trying to capture moments that will make viewers chuckle and roll their eyes at the antics of the gun lovers.

If someone on the forum subscribes to Showtime (I don't), perhaps they would be willing to post a follow-up after the premier airs.

But it doesn't really matter what the show is, the press/antis will use it for their purposes. Here's an early and nasty anti-gun review I just found via google: http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv ... -1.1528079" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have a simple formula: If it's on TV, it's probably garbage. If the term reality is associated with it, it's garbage.

That said, some of the conversations that I have overheard at the range or in gun stores make me cringe, and I would hate to see them circulated in public.

Considering "normal" customers won't make the show, this is bound to have negative contextual bias. I think Jim's right; I don't expect this will reflect well on the typical gun owner positively.

Thanks for the heads up on this show! :clapping:
I've watched all the clips. Quality promos for sure and until the program starts we're not going to be able to tell how this swings.
I personally will be watching and hoping for some insightful and hopefully fun gun-oriented entertainment. (I'd like to shoot the "fun" gun! :thumbs2: )
Politics hopefully, will not be an issue. :fire

Thanks for the post. I hadn't heard of this yet. I'll be watching one way or another as I don't subscribe.

And I probably won't cuz my Showtime money goes to ammo.

That boils the truth down nicely!

Guess that makes my DVR a Garbage Can :biggrinjester:

I don't disagree that there is a lot of stuff not worth watching, but I do enjoy some of the CIS shows, Castle, Mythbusters and a couple of the new shows out this season. I look at TV as one of my escape outlets. ;-)

Ah, Mythbusters. One of my favorites. They shoot something in almost every show!! :fire

Did anyone else take time to watch the show, I watched the first show only because I happened to be watching TV at the time it came on. I have to say I was not all that impressed with it. It looks to me to be staged, if it is not then the gun dealer guy seems to be trying way too hard. What did those of you who watched it think?

There's great television being broadcast - if you look beyond ABC/NBC/CBS, et al.

I particularly like the Science Channel, followed by: The History/National Geo/The Learning/Discovery/ and The Military Channel and there are others that have a wonderful lineup of quality viewing.

I'm an avid reader, but when not reading a book, I've found high quality in television broadcasting available.

You don't have to settle for game shows or American Idol or that contrived nonsense labeled "reality" shows.

Don't paint ALL television as garbage, cuz it just isn't so...

I do know a few folks who sniff at television with a 45 degree slant of their nose. They're convinced they're made of superior stuff, when in reality they're clueless...

Gee, Abraham, don't pull your punches. ;-)

There may well be factual TV shows that are not complete garbage, but everything that they have to say is already in print.

Jim,

The astro physics information available in a recent show I watched on the Science channel brought me up to speed on the "Chang-Diaz" plasma rocket recently invented by former astronaut Franklin Chang Diaz. It's hypothesized this power plant (if you will) can take a crew to Mars in 39 DAYS!

I went on to discuss this with Charlie Camarda, a former astronaut and cigar smoking buddy who knows Franklin and about his invention. (Dr. Camada is also an inventor, holds many patents and has logged hundreds of hours in space on different missions)

Without the broadcast I viewed, I would remain ignorant of some of the most interesting things going in science today, including, but not limited to: Paleontology, Biology, Advances in Medicine, Archeology and so on..

So yes, I rather like what's available on televisioon, if one cares to seek it out.

To label television as garbage is akin to saying reading is garbage.
