Are there other "worthly" forums?

Post by TLE2 »

My home base is this forum, because, as someone put it, this is about Texas shooting and for Texas shooters.

Are there any other forums to which I should look, as well?

There are forums for specific brands of firearms, sports, and other states. Some of them are pretty decent. I'm not an active member of any. I just use Google to search for specific issues.

I find that a lot of the same-old-same-old comes up repeatedly, and it's a waste of time to wade through. I'm talking about topics like whether 9 mm is an acceptable defensive round, or whether Glocks are just ugly or two-bag ugly. ;-)

I guess it is a lot of where do you live and what are you interested in. I live SW of Fort Worth and am involved with the
dfwshooters.org forum which centers around North Texas shooters. I also really enjoy Brian Enos' forum which is world wide and pretty much USPSA/IPSC centered. There are forums for Glocks, XDs, 1911s, AR-15s, and probably a forum for whichever toothpaste you really like. They are out there, it just depends what you are looking for.

thanks,
George

I occasionally go to other forums for the Sale & trade areas.
Past that I dont spend much time there. Language is a real issue on most of them. Flame & ridicule also for those who make an inexperienced error or ask a ? that reveals their inexperience.
Lot of wrong info out there too.

Only one I really point others to is defensivehandguns.com.
New but high standards. National so not much "Local" stuff.

maybe, but they don't always have the polite, intelligent, helpful people we have here :-)

For hipower owners I recommend:
http://handgunsandammo.proboards.com/index.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;? (Link from Steve Camp's Hipowers and Handguns site).

And if you don't own a hipower,..well you should :-)

Yes there are many other good forums out there, especially if you are interested in different types of guns or styles of shooting. As for the use of bad or alarming language, I haven't noticed anything like that on the 3 other forums that I belong to. These other forums have nothing but good things to say about the TXCHL forum. :???:

+1 on http://handgunsandammo.proboards.com/index.cgi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, but I will note that it is not a Hi Power-only site -- it covers all types of firearms, but is very good for Hi Power info. That site restricts discussion to more-or-less "technical' issues of shooting -- i.e. not politics at all. It is generally very polite.

I find Warriortalk interesting for its technical issues and kalashnikov information. It is considerably less polite than this forum, and it has a somewhat different mind-set about self-defense, which I find useful. I don't necessarily agree with everything posted there, but it is helpful to find different view points.

I have been to others and found useful stuff, but I do not have the time or inclination to visit any of them regularly.

This is a fine forum, and really THE forum for Texas-focused CCW, but I do think it would be a a bit limiting to restrict oneself to this forum for more general gun-related issues, technical or political.

Thanks for the opinions.

It looks like I'll stick here like glue. :txflag:

I also Google for specific topics, but as all thing internet, I take the advice with a large grain of salt, unless I have some trust in the author.

No nonsense forum without all the armchair commandos. Gabe seems to have the most practical keep-your-self-alive training around.

Gabe is a Christain man and his site shows it (with limited exceptions) but don't expect it to be warm and fuzzy.

I split my time between this site and his.

There might be other good forums out there but who has time? I spend more time here than I should. The real nice thing about this place is there are people here that really know what they are talking about.
