My parents live in SE Arizona, their home address is literally on Hwy 92, in Hereford AZ. It is about 3 mins from Palominas, 15 from Naco, and about 25 from Sierra Vista. From their house, you can see the Mexican border. In the years they have lived there, they have seen hundreds of illegals come across their 16 acre plot. One even died from heat exhaustion on the corner of their land. Arms are kept near and the border patrol is on speed dial.

I will give them a ring to ask what sort of presence they see of the Minutemen project.

I found this quote interesting (regarding whether or not it's legal to carry in a federal facility):

"We almost didn't go in, it's intimidating, but Brad and I continually brushed such reluctance aside on this trip. There was a "no civilian guns" sign on the door, so I went in with holster empty. Federal statute does not actually authorize such a ban: the civilian gun ban in federal facilities does not apply to "the lawful carrying of firearms or other dangerous weapons in a Federal facility incident to hunting or other lawful purposes." [18 USC 930(d)(3)], but in my experience this is routinely ignored, and we complied here."

Thanks for the MMP click and the attendant photos. I'm a retired USBP Agent and can say that, for the Agents working the Line, the MMP is a great help. There are numerous administrative constraints on the manner in which the USBP Agents are allowed to exercise their statutory authority ... and the MMP provides much-needed additional eyes and ears to the enterprise of border integrity.

BTW, the Agents referred to in the article as "Captain" are actually "Supervisory Patrol Agents". The writer assumed (as is usually the case) that, since they were wearing USMC captain's bars, that they must be captains.
