Thinking about buying a colt commander to carry instead of grand raptor getting little heavy. how many of you carry and shoot the commander, hows the accuracy?
shoot more so you can reload.

I carry the 4.25" SW1911PD. Very easy to carry yet still retains the reliability of the 5" 1911.

I alternate between a stainless Colt Commander and one of my 5" guns. I think the Commander is an excellent length 1911 and there is no appreciable difference in accuracy. The 3/4" longer slide on the 5" guns makes a difference in muzzle flip, thus it makes a difference in follow up shots, but the difference is not very significant in IDPA shooting. In an actual combat situation, I believe most folks wouldn't find any perceptible difference.

There is very little difference in the weight of a Commander and a 5" gun, unless we are talking about a lightweight Commander.

Have 2 carry weapons that are commander size. Both Kimber.
Eclipse Pro ll is stainless & in a good holster it does not get heavy to me by the end of the day. Comp-tac Gurkha.
Pro CDP is Aluminum frame & lighter. Both are more accurate than I can shoot. I imagine the colt commander is quality enough that it would be the same. Take the average man a long time to outshoot the gun.

I have a Colt Commander, and, as far as accuracy, it shoots better than I do. I have never had a single malfunction with it either.

All that said... it is still not my primary carry gun. I love my Glock 19. It fits my hand and is comfortable to shoot. You have to figure out what is most comfortable for you.

For normal carry I alternate between a G19, G36 and a compact 1911 by Rock Island. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. I don't think there is enough difference between the G19 and the G36 to be a problem but I am wondering if I am making a mistake by including the 1911 because of the differences in operation. I do feel comfortable carrying either, but wonder if it could cause a problem under the stress involved if I actually had to draw.

I know there are several LONG TIME SHOOTERS on this forum that carry different arms. My 2 cents & mine only for me. If I need my weapon for defense I need everything to be 2nd nature, exactly the same, not muscle memory but muscle memorization. Only change I make in carry weapon is a weight difference in Eclipse Pro ll or a Pro CDP. Difference in 1911 & G's would be awsome for me. If you are young & relatively new to carry I suggest you pick one & don't change around for at least a yr. Shoot everything at the range. I do too. Carry the same thing until it is part of your hand. If your training is w/ the Glocks I would fear that under stress & you are reduced to your level of constant training that the thumb safety would not be muscle memorized & thus a hesitation or worse. Stop. Who said He who hesitates dies. My 2 cents & some think it worth half that.

Well the colt commander at gun shop said take me home, pick up the light weight looks good they have smooth some of the sharp edges and tighted the barrel up.
hope to get to range this week end to test fire.
