I've seen a few Mossberg 12ga pumps for sale, but don't recall seeing any semi-autromatics
I guess I'm lazy and would rather shoot than pump...

Does Mossberg make a semi-automatic?
Do they make one that's a pistol grip, or would you have to modify it yourself?

Is it considered to be the best shotgun you can buy?

Just trying to learn more about this brand.
I've heard this is probably the best house defense gun is a nice fast shooting 12 guage

personally i'm a purist .i love the simple design and the reliability of the pump action. its just about foolproof .
i dont have any experience with the semi-auto, but i'm thinking there could possibly be a malfunction just as you could have in a semi-auto hand gun. i'm sure someone will let me know if i'm wrong .

Yeah, I hear ya. That's the idea behind only
using revolvers when talking pistols

But, they say that the late model semi-automatics
are pretty reliable if they are fully tested to make
sure there aren't any defects or tweaks needed
and if they are kept clean.

I figure before it's all said and done, I'll have
a little of all of it.

With the world going crazy outside, I think
it's a good idea to have guns and ammo
all over the house and the shop.

I have shot both pump and semi. Pumps are fun and really cool but I LIKE the semi. they are so easy to shoot and shoot and shoot...

yes Mossberg does make semi-auto shot guns.
as far as the pistol grip, i have always bought mine " aftermarket " .they are super easy to install.

IMO, to get the best bang for your buck, its hard to beat the Maverick 88, made by Mossberg.
its pump action..18.5 inch barrel..and well under $200. i beleive its called "the home defender "

it kicks like a mule, but i love the feeling of that raw power.
with the right ammo, it makes for a very devastating weapon .

It's all about how fast you can operate the mechanism accurately, not about which mechanism you have. Some folks claim a revolver is faster and more reliable than a pistol. I tell 'em to check out Jerry Miculek. Shotguns are the same.

As to Mossberg shotguns, I like 'em. I've had several over the years and never had a problem with 'em. Some folks like Remington or Benelli, and I've always heard good things about them too. I'd opine that your best bet is like with a handgun, find one that feels good to you and go with that.

Isn't the Maverick line also made in TEXAS!!!??? I've seen that advertised on some Mossbergs over the years...

FWIW, I can't keep a lightweight on target as fast as I can pull the trigger, but getting back on target and pumping takes about the same time. Then again, I've been a wingshooter since I was about 8 years old, and always run a pump.

I had two of the 9200 series Jungle Guns. They were only supposed to work with double-ought. Mine didn't seem to know that. They would cycle all the way down to #8 bird loads, held week-hand, upside down, and limp-wristed.

In hindsight, I SHOULD've learned to live with it's one bug-a-boo, the lack of a 'free carrier' . You had to depress the carrier release button to insert EACH shell. Not the free-lifter design of the pumps.

Anyhow, they now have the 930 series. A trusted acquaintance says that he can't make his jam, either. Plus, it has the free lifter design.

If I could spare the money I would have a Benelli M4 semi-auto 12g. Ever since I saw this on "Mail Call" with the gunney
I saw one at Cabela's once for about $1300. I wish I would have gotten it then.
