Gee, those look really cool!! Is the vertical waveness an optical illusion of the canvass texture or are there vertical grooves in the grips? Where do these come from?

Thanks for the compliments! The grips are from VZ Grips. They make grips for 1911's and Hi Powers mostly. You've probably seen their grips on a few customs; Nighthawks, Volkmann's, and Heinie's to name a few. I first saw them on a custom shop Springfield on the cover of "Guns" and fell in love with them. They're the "Alien" model. They also make quite a few others. The vertical grooves are milled into the micarta, not an optical illusion. The Gator model has small horizontal grooves milled across, and the Alien model has grooves cut across, but at opposing angles instead of straight horizontal. I don't know if it effects the grip any, but they look a little bit neater to me. Their website is http://www.vzgrips.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; if you'd like to look at some. They seem to be priced reasonably with other micarta and G10 type grip panels. I'm really impressed with them. I plan to shoot with them some in the next few weeks, then use the Raptor for my first 3 gun competition on July 18 at the Midland Shooter's Association. Maybe I'll get some time soon and post the 3 gun set up that I think I'll be going with. In addition to the Raptor, I'll be using my AR15, and a Winchester 1300 Defender with Blackhawk Knoxx Spec-Ops stock (as soon as the darn stock gets off backorder and is shipped!). On a side note, the Maxpedition bag is my new Aggressor briefcase that will hold a 17 inch laptop. It also has a concealed weapon compartment. It's handy for heading to work in the morning when I have to take the kids in school and can't put the Ultra Covert on until I get to the office. The American Flag IR patch is the actual patch worn by my best friend on his uniform in combat in Afghanistan. He gave it to me when he got back.
