A very knowledgable friend told me last week that STI 1911 frames and slides are made in the Phillipines.
I don't know if this is true for a fact, but I trust this guy on firearm matters.

I believe they make a certain 1911 single stack for STI. The rest of STI's 1911/2011 guns are made in Texas AFAIK.

I beleive that only the STI Spartan is made by Amscor, and even then, only the frame is. The slide and all assembly is done in Georgetown, or so I'm told.

I visited the Visayas there in January. The security guards were universally armed with revolvers. I think I saw markings on several indicating Taurus-Rossi, or perhaps Llama manufacture. Some looked like nothing more the paperweights, or could only be viable in that role..
The exception were bank guards. One guard with an M16, and the other with a 12ga. semi seemed to be the 'standard'. Those were the two OUTSIDE. Inside was one or two others with pistols.
Police seemed to be either sporting 1911's, or Berettas. While I can't be sure of the the pedigree, I know I saw several stainless Colt's. I don't recall seeing any Glock or Sig. Mind you, I spoke with an UNarmed lady officer at one of the airports. She explained that she could not AFFORD a gun of her own yet!
They start out at the US equivalent of $355 per month.
