QUICK ACCESS BUT SAFE GUN STORAGE BOX

#1

Post by papa »

I would like to keep a loaded pistol near me in the house in a box of some kind that will be quick to open but will be safe when grandchildren are in the house. Does someone make a quick opening but locking small box that can be mounted to the wall?

Several people make what you're looking for.

One major brand is gunvault. http://www.gunvault.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see several other brands at the Cabelas website http://www.cabelas.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Just look under shooting gear and then gun storage.

Happy shopping!

I used the GunVault as my solution for under-seat storage in my van. I bolted mine to a sheet of steel attached to the frame of the seat, and it was quite sturdy. It worked well, and is quite fast for access.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU STAY AWAY FROM GUNVAULT

I was a fan until I bought one. I detailed my experience with GunVault quality and customer service here:

http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... php?t=6246" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Since that write-up, I have experienced the door sticking on mine occasionally and I have to re-enter my passcode to get it to open (3 times is the most tries it has ever taken). I suppose they are fine for just keeping your pistols off limits, but if you are buying something that you need to count on to open, GunVault products simply are not dependable. It may cost $30-50 more, but if you are "betting your life on it" to work, get a mechanical pistol safe. There is a good vendor I see at every Dallas Market Hall and Will Rogers gunshow that makes some excellent products.

I have the mini-vault bolted to the shelves right above my bed...withing approx 1 to 2 seconds of punching 6 digit code (that I set) kerchunk..the door pops open and I have access to a condition 1 1991A1...I would NOT store it any other way!

The latch on our Gun Vault stopped working for no apparent reason, within the first year of use. When we called them, we were told there was no warranty. We're now going with Winchester brand, which has a lifetime warranty.

I have one of the GunVaults bolted to my night stand. I open it every night before turning out the light and have never had it fail to open. I've been using it for about 14 months and I'm still on the first set of batteries. I would highly recommend the product.

I'm just wondering if opening/closing a Gunvault every night may contribute to failure. I have one, but I only open it on occasion to verify its operation.

When I bought it, I did not intend to be opening it every day. I use keyed safes/lockboxes for everyday use. I consider the Gunvault to be an emergency system, not for constant use.

As of now, I haven't had a problem with it.

YMMV :rules:
