Well, kind of getting to an unknown area here.. Been researching on something in the 1911 platform and saw an ad for the subject for $575.00. Things I found out.. Detonics are already out of business, will parts be a problem?? Should I jump on this one or wait..
Thanks ya'll for any inputs/info you can give this 1911 newbie..or maybie wannabie :smile: :smile: ..

Might Look at other 1911s for Concealed Carry

It may seem like a good price, but I don't think these were made for concealment. The rear sights are set very far forward on which makes for a hard time getting in and out of a holster. The gun also has sharp edges and chiseling which makes for snags if you have to take out quickly.

I regularly carry a Kimber CDP II, Ultra Eclipse, or Ultra Carry. Have to admit kimbers are pricey, so if cost is a factor you might want to check out a colt defender or other .45 that is better suited for carry and will have no problem with parts in the future.

Check out

I have had a Detonics Combat Master since the early 80's and have always enjoyed it. The Kimber ULTRA CDP is a great concealed carry gun but for the difference in price, the Detonics would be hard to beat.

Thanks to your replies!! :smile: . Well, as I have mentioned I'm really getting the 1911 itch. Anyway, this is my thought process. I would like a 1911 that's fun to shoot. It won't be a carry gun, I have a G26 and a snubby .38 five shot for that purpose. If my apparel would allow it I can carry a G23 or SIG 229. I figure the time I enjoy my guns are;
1. Shooting at the gun range..
2. DON'T LAUGH :lol: :lol: Taking them out of the safe and just admiring them, staring at them or cleaning them!! Ok, OK!! I know I'm sick, no need to rub it in!! :oops: :oops: !!!
3. Showing 'em off to fellow gun lovers..

Now, having said that I've ordered a Kimber Custom II for under $700.00 ( inclusive of shipping and FFL fees).. Brand New from Kimber. I believe this is their least expensive model but at least my first 1911 is a Kimber...Thanks to all that gave me a lot of info and yes, to High Velocity for the personal advice via email!!
Thanks..

Detonics made great guns, in fact were first Stainless Steel guns to solve galling problem in 1911.

I have owned 2 combat masters(cut down officers size) and 2 scoremasters (full 5in size) and loved them all.

The Kimber Custom II is IMHO the best value beginner 1911 made.

I'm partial to the Royale because I just love the bluing.

Who did you order your Kimber through?

Here is a good site to visit now that you have ventured into 1911 ownership. It has alot of good information on carrying, maintenance and other helpful tools.

There is also a forum for posting questions or finding help from other 1911 owners...
