Dad shoots at computer, saying son spends too much time playing games

Dunedin, Florida - A Dunedin dad probably made his point about his son spending too much time on the computer. Pinellas Sheriff's deputies say he shot at the monitor as his son sat near-by. Forty-four-year-old Joseph Langenderfer was arrested Monday afternoon at his home on Frances Street.

His 22-year-old son Tim called 911, saying he and his dad were arguing and his dad had just shot at him.

The older Langenderfer reportedly told deputies he was mad that his son had not done the laundry and was spending all his time playing games on their computer. He told deputies that although he told his son he was going to shoot the computer, the gun accidentally fired.

The bullet hit the wall about three feet from where the son was sitting.

Langenderfer is in the Pinellas County jail charged with one count of attempted murder, (accused of trying to kill his son, not the computer.)

I had the same problem with my Son but I just took the power cord. He got the point and straightened up.

This would be another of example of how those with CHLs should be able to find other, less violent methods of getting the message across.

Years ago when confronted with two youngsters glued to the TV instead of doing chores, Hubby grabbed a pair of wire cutters and unexpectedly cut the power cord while they were watching. Sparks flew and eyes grew very large, but 22 years later they still remember how "dramatic" that was. As we only had the one TV and it was several weeks before Dad fixed it with a 25 cent connector, it made an even bigger impact.

I must say that I have wanted to shoot my computer on many occasions while writing papers!

GG, I am glad he was properly grounded! It could have been the shock of his life!

It is sad to hear that someone endangered their child......really the kind of story that we do not want to spread negative publicity for responsible gun owners.

Worth noting that the video playing "kid" in this case was 22 years old and living with his father.

I think drastic action was long overdue. Certainly before it reached the point of involving firearms!

True KB, but different action 17 yr ago would probably preclude the need of desperate action at 22. Certainly not the way to teach anyone to go look for a job. Or maybe an education.

My oldest was on the Army bus at 18 years, 2 months, and 20 days. At that point, he'd graduated from our home school by more than a year, and had passed his GED by more than 6 months. 'Twarn't no doubt, the boy was a man, and on his own.

Next oldest, 16yo femalien girlchild, is also homeschooled. She isn't leaning towards the military, but she also isn't leaning on my last nerve to the degree her older brother did. We have a lot of learning left to do before declaring her "graduated", independent,, and emancipated. God willing, she'll never know the seedier sides of all of that. Such is life, being the only princess amongst four brothers.
