It's like that at all the stores here too, and what you do find is really expensive. I haven't shot the .45 in quite some time, the last time I did I only put 7 rounds through it.. Just worried if I go out and go through 100 rounds I may not be able to go out and restock. I've got 300 rounds right now, a "comfortable" spot, but I'm sure not going to shoot any of it unless I know I can buy more..
Santa was good to me though and brought me a few thousand rounds of .22 shells, so that will keep me happy for a few weekends

Buy a press and start reloading. Do it sooner than later.

That's something I'll have try out this year. It's been on my "to do" list for quite some time. After visiting Academy on Saturday and seeing the empty ammo shelves (NO 5.56 or 9mm), it got me a bit worried. I've seen stores get low from time to time, but not run out completely.

Same was true for the WalMart in Jacksonville last Wednesday.

This is a good idea, but handloading is getting popular too and bullets, powder and primer are getting rare, as well.

At the Buda location the pistol ammo was pretty thin, I managed to get out with 3 boxes of Magtech .45 ACP. On the other hand there was an abundance of .223/5.56. They had Black Hills red and blue boxes, black box tacticool XM193, bulk PMC, Remington UMC and I saw a few boxes of Winchester Q3131 as well. No great deals and I was on another mission so I didn't pick any up. :(

Was traveling in Missouri and Arkansas over the holidays and the couple of Wal-Mart's and Gander Mountain locations I visited were picked pretty clean of 9mm, .45 and .223. Must have been very popular Christmas gift items. I know I got some 9mm and .45.

To me, nothing says I love you better in a gift than brass, lead or copper!!

I'm emailing that to my parents, you know, cause my birthday is only a few months away....

If you get cabelas coupons in the mail, Dick's sporting goods will honor them. Sometimes, Dick's has OK prices on sale ammo. I used a Cabelas coupon to get 300rds of Ultramax 223 out the door for $119. That's about as cheap as you'll find at any store.

I was there yesterday (the Fort Worth store) and noticed the same thing - only I was looking for Black Hills .223 Match ammo. However, I have seen this before, and then gone back on a week day and the shelves are full; so I think it possible that their on-the-shelf supply dwindles rapidly over Friday/Saturday, and then it gets restocked on Monday.

Another check of Wal-Mart and Academy here in Lubbock today.
No 9mm at WM. Some WWB .45 acp in the 100rd value pk for $29.87 (the normal price for quite a while). Plenty of .38 spec, some .40
Small amount of .45 and .40 in Blazer brass
Academy had 5 boxes of WWB 9mm 50 rounders for 12.80 per box. Tiger steel cased in 9mm for $8.87 per 50 (had 6 boxes)..
I actually need some 9mm for a class this week too....ridiculous

well, a buddy of mine's son is starting police academy
soon, and must have 1500- 9 mm rounds by friday afternoon.
it's required.
maybe thats one reason 9 mm is scarce right now,
just a guess.
