I am in the market for a compact pistol in anticipation of my CHL arriving. I have a Taurus 24/7 pro 9mm, but feel it is a little large to conceal. I am happy with it and becoming quite proficient with it. I have been told .40 is better choice for protection i.e. more stopping power than 9mm. I do not want to start another 9 vs. .40 debate. Just need some advice on which compact is reliable and easy to conceal. Also, looking to keep the cost below $ 600. I thought about the Taurus Millenium Pro 40, Glock 23, and S&W M&P compact 40. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions.

I carry a glock 23 with speer gold dots, 13+1 in a crossbreed supertuck at 4 o'clock and a spare mag in a pocket holster 12-16 hours a day. It's comfortable and I can tuck my shirt on Sundays at church and nobody knows the wiser, even while ushering.

I have 2500 flawless rounds through it, from winchester white box, blazers, UMC, Speer Gold Dots, Federal hydrashocks without a single hickup.

If you shop around you should be able to get a glock 23 and quality leather for $500-$550. I saw a new in box 23 at the gun show this weekend for $469.

I sometimes carry an H&K USP Compact in .40. It is a durable and reliable gun. Never fails to fire. In hindsight however, I don't think they are worth the price premium. OTH, I am a confirmed 1911 guy, which is why I don't carry it more often. That being said, if you can find a used USP Compact, you will likely save yourself a lot of money on what is in most respects a pretty good pistol.

I, too, carry a G23. I keep in a Split Decision Holster from High Noon Holsters. If you're looking for even smaller, check out the G27.

I have a S&W M&P compact. Easy to carry and conceal, fun to shoot, reliable, and accurate. Enough said!

I only have personal experience with the Glock 23, and it is a fine weapon, if it fits you right. They simply don't fit some people's hands. You need to find a way to get your hands on each of these handguns and, preferably, fire them, before you buy one. Then you'll know which pistol is right for you, if any of them are. The right pistol for me may be the absolute worst pistol for you.

Let us know where you are. I am sure there are some of us in your area, and if we have one of the pistols that you are interested in, I am sure that someone will volunteer to meet you at a range to let you try theirs out. Or find a range near you that rents pistols.

I've had a Glock 27 for a bunch of years, never had a problem with it.

You might want to look at the Taurus PT24/7 Pro Compact in .40mm since you already have the full size. The operation of both would be the same....and I've seen the .40 for under $400

XD49sc would be a great option. Had the 4" version and loved the way it ran. Traded it for an XD9sc and if the .40 version is anywhere near as good as the 9mm it would be a great buy. Conceals well with the 10 rd mag and a Crossbreed SuperTuck or Bullard Dual Carry are both excellent options for holsters.

I carry a 1911 45,but am currently looking at S&W MP9c and 40c for my daughter and myself,It will be her first handgun and I told her to run by the gunstore and see how it fits,I hope she don't see the EMP's
