I have used Wilson's "Ultima-Lube" and small amounts of Rem-Oil for the last ten years. I have been very pleased with this combination.

I know a few people using "Spec308" (same copper based lube as factory glock), and it does stay in place, but I find it unnecessary for my kind of shooting.

A properly lubed firearm is (at least) as important as your choice of weapon and ammo.

For most pistols...you'll need both grease and oil.

What works for you guys and gals?

Used to use BreakFree...now I use Eezox or FP-10. FP-10 is some of the slickest stuff I've ever seen; the Eezox goes on wet and then "dries". Makes pocket carry a breeze. It's supposed to be the hands down winner as a rust preventative, and I use it on the exterior of all of my (non-Glock) firearms. No complaints using the Eezox as a lube in a 200+ round session with a Glock 23 and 100 or so rounds through a Kahr PM-9.

All that said, lately I've favored the FP-10. Everything just seems to run better/smoother.

I just use Rem-Oil...maybe I should reconsider?

For my carry piece I don't oil it much at all unless I'm going to the range. It's stays in good working order...just not VERY heavy oil coat.

I just spray/apply some Break-Free, scrub it down with a nylon toothbrush to loosen any potential buildup...Wipe it all down as best I can (with as lint free a cloth as I can find), swab the barrel dutifully and run one last (slightly damp CLP) swab through it to give it a few microns of protection, and reassemble, putting 1 small drop (of Hoppes oil) per the (4) "slide" guides on my Glock 23 and yer done...

Cycle it a few times, wipe it down one more time, load it, holster it, and forgetaboutit...

Average time to get a firearm back into service...'bout 5 minutes...

I have had zero failure to function, in any aspect, in any firearm I have ever owned, if I kept it simple...

Our clean and lube methods are very similar! I used to be obsessive about cleaning my guns until I entered the world of the AR15. If there is a gun out there that will break you of an obsessive cleaning habit....that is the one.
CLP is great stuff. I doubt that it is the best of any three intended purposes...but it works great for me and doesn't offend the wife when using it in the house! That said, I like a little gun grease on the slide....just a dab will do ya! I am not particular about the brand of that...just whatever is cheap and greasy!

I've never had much luck getting oils to stay in place in areas such as slide rails. Even before shooting, oil seems to fall victim to gravity just by riding in my holster.

I do use oils, but generally only on parts that pivot or ones that do not receive alot of pressure or rapid cycling. Any part that slides across another.. gets grease.

Anymore, I'm lucky to get to shoot once a month. If I were to use only oil, I doubt there'd be any left if I didn't replenish it once a week. The grease.. however, stays put until I have run about 300 rounds through the gun or choose to clean it (every 30-45 days if not shot).

Maybe I'm not "up" on the latest oils, are there some that don't migrate so badly?

I'm not looking to change my lubricating practices, just curious what everyones using.

I use a few different things depending on the gun and what it's purpose is.
For shotguns I use Hoppe's weathergaurd oil on all internal moving parts and I hose the outside down with RemOil.

For almost everything else I use Breakfree CLP and/or Tetragun. On stainless autos I use Rig +P Stainless Lube.

In a pinch I have used WD40, 3in1 Oil and even Dextron II trans fluid.

We have a fleet of full autos and rental guns that anyone of probably have more rounds down range than a lot of peoples entire collection.

Mobil 1 works just fine.

Castrol Syntec.

Pro Gold for grease and Hoppes for oil. Combination of the two seems to work quite well.

Gun Butter for the slides. Great stuff!

Tetra Grease. Great stuff when you need something that's very slickery, but will stay in place.

I also use Tetra Oil, or Rem-Oil if I need better penetration.

For lubrication I use Hoppe's gun grease on slide rails mostly, other times I'll use Break Free. For lubricating the action (trigger components) I've been using Militec. Not sure if the Militec is any better at lubing actions yet, just thought I'd try it for a while to test it out. I use the Break Free for rust protection also.

I recently saw a video showing different lubes being tested. There was a special machine with a bearing attached to it. I would say that 6 or 7 of the top "gub lubes" were tested and the only one to pass was the "Ultima-Lube".

That being said the test was done by Wilson Combat....the distributor of "Ultima-Lube".
