My truck got broken into last night!

I was in houston at a friends apartment last night, it's actually about 5 minutes from DWS117's house.

Anyway...come out this morning and find my newly finished system (I installed it myself 2 weeks ago) gone, my driver's side door look is chiseled out, my CD binder (all copies - originals at home ) gone, and the remote to my radio gone.

They were "nice enough" to not take my oakleys or my radio, but I assume that they saw the radio and went in for that, and found my nice system instead. My center console contents (including all the receipts for my business stuff) were scattered all over. My poker chip case was "inspected" for who knows what.

What really drives me crazy is this is a GATED COMPLEX...with some sort of courtesy officer or something. Alot of good that did. My apartment at home in College Station is wide open, and not that nice, and I never have issues like this.

Why is it that there is a couple of low-life pieces of crap that feel like they are entitled to my hard earned stuff??? This is bull....

On a somewhat lighter note...on the drive back I was running through the "what if I came out and caught them" questions since I frequently go to my truck at later times (always carrying). I kind of wish I would've...low life's deserve what's coming to them. NOT that I would've shot them or anything like that...but at least they would be caught and put away...or at least had the dodo scared out of them when they see a hacked off truck owner with a .45 aimed at thier chest.

And yes...I am feeling better now that I've ranted. Onto lessons learned:

1. Don't have anything nice anywhere...even though it's your right, some low-life scum of the earth will just take it from you. And you thought you were free....

2. Get an alarm w/remote alert notifier (my keys will beep if its triggered).

3. Don't leave gun in truck at night....ever...period. - not that I ever did...but this is a proof text in case anyone would consider it.

Stevie - we need to talk about putting a safe in my truck.

I know how you feel brother...I'm sorry for you that this happened...

You'll make your adjustments, and move on...

I don't keep anything in a vehicle I am not prepared to lose...And more important, if its personal information that may be on receipts or other official documentation, it gets moved inside at night...To me thats one of the most overlooked, yet most important things to protect these days...

Also, Zen-Master Steve recommends you head to the range...Even in this crappy weather, and expend no less that a box through your favorite pistola...It does wonders for me...I'm sure it'll work the same for you...

Sorry this happened to you Nick....having your property violated is a terrible feeling. I have to agree with Stevie that you should get out to the range...even if it is raining and do a little shooting! It always gets my mind back to where it belongs. Take care and I hope that your insurace company is reasonable!

I know the feeling man. I've been there with the car broken into, and the house broken into. Both incense me for them violating my space.

I feel your pain Nick. Sorry it happened to you. They got me (in Houston) in 1993. Broke the drivers window and destroyed the dash in my Bronco for a $200 radio.

As someone that's had their car broken into 5 (YES FIVE) times in 3 years, I completely and totally feel your pain here.

As a side note, the last 2 times my car was broken into, here's what they took:

* A burned CD full of encrypted network security documentation
* A lint roller from my console
* Box of tissues
* Hand Sanitizer
* about Seventy Cents in pennies
Total net worth: about five dollars

here's what they left:
* $800 GPS reciever
* $400 Valentine-1 Radar detector
* FastTrack Transponder (California version of the TollTAG)
* Old, disconnected cellphone

Total net worth $1400.

I'm glad crooks are dumb.

I Caught a 13 year old kid the last time my car was broken into. $200 car alarm more than paid off with the satisfaction of sending a kid to Juvie, even if only for a few days.

Hey new to this site, and have been enjoying reading the posts and trying to keep a low profile, but your story made me mad and I have to vent myself.

It seems we have much more crime in the Houston area since the hurricane criminals came here.
Don’t get me wrong, I am sympathetic for the good folks who lost it all in the storm, and I am thankful my fellow Texans have big hearts and extended a helpful hand to our friends in LA.
Unfortunately more than a few from the New Orleans boys club (criminals), are sticking around because they think it is easy Pickens in Houston, and actually it has been. We just have to watch the news at night to see the crime rate is way up.

If there was some way for all the gun owners in Houston to make a statement that we are not going to be passive about crime, maybe these Bad Guys would move on.

Maybe we should have a March or demonstration of some kind. We could call it “Texans with weapons against crime�.

This might send a strong message. I am sure we would not have any trouble getting TV coverage, the anti-gun networks would jump at a chance to report on a bunch of crazy gun toting Texans. The joke would be on them if all they found when they arrived where solid citizens from all walks of life, young and old, men and women that had 2nd amendment signs and politely told reporters how we are prepared if we are forced to protect ourselves and our property against criminals. 0 tolorence for crime.
Not that I would shoot someone for my property, but the Bad guys don’t know that.

I think if a few thugs get popped during nighttime burglary incidents that could be a negative expected value (poker term) as far as the crime rate is concerned.

I understand what you are feeling, but if you sit and add up legal fees...you could install one awesome system in your truck! I realize that your stance is based on principal.
I would rather some punk take my radio once every couple of months than give up my little Glock sidekick over to the police as evidence! Just something to think about.

btw, This story finally inspired me to order a couple of the car safes.....I think it is money well spent. My wife is a teacher and I have to disarm before entering her school.....I would hate for a windshield to get broken and my gun disappear!
