First time back since before storm. Lost my Home and Bussiness its been a mess. Looking for help with my Guns saved most handguns, all longguns set in water for a long period of time. Sprayed WD40 on all. Have not had time to do anything else to them since. Looking to find someone to Help get them back into shape. Was lucky enough to have insurance on everything. Need to find gunsmith to help restore them. Any Info will be helpfull.
I live in Galveston, willing to travel to Houston. Have been working on my Deer Rifle myself just in case I do get a chance to go this season. I'm talking about around 10-12 Longguns coupple Pistols.
All of my time has been tied up with trying to save my home and bussiness.
Please advise on any bussiness or anyway to help save my Firearms.
Thanks for your time
Charlie T

Best advice I can give you right now would be to keep your guns coated in oil to help inhibit any rust that may continue to spread on your firearms and to remove any of the stocks on your firearms that have been immersed in saltwater. Keep the guns together but just remove the stocks away from the action, this will help reduce rust contamination.
Right now is a bad time of year to be needing quickie-jobs. Deer season is coming on, I'm swamped in work that I'm trying to finish from before the hurricane, and the other gunsmith who works here is out with health problems and may have to quit (oh joy, more fun for me
). Just about everyone else in town is going through the same thing, but call around and check to see how things are going with people. If you want to bring your guns to someone to work on right now it's going to be waiting for awhile (maybe a month or more).
Aside form that, just follow the above advice I gave you so it'll help preserve the firearms and may prevent them from needing a total overhaul (if they don't already).
Hope your road to recovery is a short one.

+1 on the oil. Light machine oil, baby oil, gun oil, motor oil, almost anything. Pour it on and in the guns.
Never use WD-40 to protect anything. It's good for dispersing water (that's what the "WD" stands for), but it won't prevent rust.

Were they in salt water? If so they need to be rinsed in warm tap water. Then follow all the good advice above.
