New Wilson Combat pistol

Has anyone seen this? It's called the ADP or Advanced Design Pistol. It's a polymer franed gun. They advertise it as being light at 19.5 ounces and having a capacity od 10+1.
Why? Is Bill's business doing that badly?
Also, IMO it is down right ugly. Almost makes a Glock look good.

I agree that it is ugly! Seems that everyone wants a little piece of the polymer market. Oh well....there are Wilson fans out there that will flock to get one!
I am partial to Glock......but whatever floats your boat.

I don't like the position of that safety selector.
It doesn't look like a Wilson. Looks more like a Hi-Point. Polymer is seldom pretty, but... dang! That thing has been whacked with the ugly stick!

I think it's going to be a tough sell for Wilson, unless they can beat glock and xd pricing. I doubt that's going to happen.
One of the major problems I read about glocks is the finger groves on their guns (although the fit me fine). This Wilson has very pronounced groves that are going to keep it out of a lot of peoples hands.
I would like to see one to see how they incorporated the safety.

With those finger grooves I might try holding one, but I can almost guarantee that they won't be comfortable to my hand, so I will probably never shoot one, much less own one.

Looks like a H&K P7 without the decocker.

Does the thing have a safety or is it DAO?

Nevermind.....I guess it would be the big goofy AR15 style lever there were the safety is supposed to be

Here's my theory about finger grooves...
Your grip is strongest when your fingers are tight together, especially your middle and ring fingers. If you have a grooved grip, your middle and ring fingers should go together into a single groove, with a ridge between ring and pinky.
Watch an aikido practitioner sometime, and observe which fingers he uses for wrist-twisting: middle two fingers together, and the thumb.
That said, I have a Hogue Handall slip-on on my P97, and it has grooves. I'd rather it didn't, and I only leave it there for traction. If it was one of the older style with solid bumps, I'd grind them off, but it's one of the newer ones. If I cut the bumps off, I'd be left with holes (and I've thought about doing that anyway).

Isn't that the South African gun? I read somewhere about a deal to build them for someone in this country but I can't recall if it was Wilson or not.

A co-worker an I were discussing the same thing. The ejection port especially looks like it was ripped right from Hi Point.

You never know, it actually has a manual safety! I'd like to try it out as long as the gun is high quality in person.
Kinda always wanted an manual safety on my XD.

And I would tend to agree with you, and if it were not for my big paws I might like finger grooves, but my fingers get jammed together enough without them and using them is quite uncomfortable.

Why would you want another one on a gun with 2 safeties already?
I loved the KISS application on my XD.

I would state that a major investment like this is a sign that Bill is doing very well.
At Shot Show, Wilson had two booths. His main one and a smaller one on the very back wall that was for these pistols. When I played around with the pistol at the main booth I was impressed with fit and finish as well as ergonomics, however the trigger was the worst I had felt in some time. They assured me it was not the way they are supposed to feel and something about this being a test gun....lots of people messing with it....blah blah...
When I saw the other booth they had several out and the triggers were much better. more or less standard small back up style firearm triggers.
All in all I was impressed with the weapon and if Bill can position himself in the market place at the proper price point and capitilize on his great branding efforts so far with the Wilson line, he might have a chance with it.
On another note, and a poster has brought it up. The person staffing this second booth was South African. So maybe there is some truth to that rumour.
