The XD 45 compact has a 4" barrel with a reduced grip length. You get 10 +1 capacity where a sub would give you only 6 or 7. The grip length determines how concealable a gun is more than barrel length plus the extra inch of barrel will give you more velocity and a longer sight radius. Short barreled handguns are difficult to shoot due to the short sight radius and increased muzzle blast and flash.

edit:

I compared the dimensions of the XD 45 Compact and the Glock 30. The Glock barrel is about .25" shorter than the XD OAL on the XD is about .66" longer than the Glock the grip height of the Glock is about .33" less than the XD. Looks like a dead heat to me.

Ain't nothing wrong with a Glock. I traded my XD45 fr a G21SF after 2 failures that I had with my XD that *could* have cost me my life.

Look at the G36. 6+1 and a little thicker than a 1911.

My daily carry is a G30. I have a SC XD .40. the glock is a bit more accurate and the xd is a bit more concealable. I have no problems with either. but no .45 in the subcompact xd line.

God forbid......if the laws of this nation ever changed, and I could only keep one semi-auto, I would really have trouble making the choice between my inexpensive XD45 Service and my very expensive 4" Wilson Combat Professional. The XD is incredibly accurate, as is the Pro, the XD has never hand any malfunctions in over 5000 rounds, same for the Pro, but the XD holds almost twice as many rounds as the Pro.

I have shot perfect 250's with both guns in CHL renewal qualifications. Both weigh pretty much the same when fully loaded. I have well made custom holsters and real gunbelts for both and both carry very comfortably.

I am just glad that my XD45 Service, was not the first semi-auto I have ever owned, and in my 50 years I have owned a bunch of guns. It would most likely be the only one. Yes I consider it that good.

I would like to see a sub compact .45 ACP come out.

I have a XD9SC that is the most balanced pistol I have ever held.

I have the 45 4" in the compact and full grip and think that if the extra inch was taken off, it would be a good fit.

just my 2 cents.

That would be nice to have a shorty .45 unfortunately I haven't seen one yet but with the new xdM out I don't think they will be making one anytime soon.

The XD45C is 10+1 and is great except for the weight. I routinely carry a G27 Clipdraw and the XDC is 9 oz heavier...

I have the XD40 and xd45c and prefer the XD45c compact for carry....the 40 is the same as the 9mm diminsionally....The 45 compact is slightly heavier......only .7" longer in the grip diminsion. It is carried ever bit as easily in my Comp-Tac Minitaur IWB slider as the sc. The plus is the 4" sight radius. Much more accurate at 25 yds out. And in my case much more easily controlled with the pd loads........free hand shooting, it amounts to inches of accuracy in my case.

I have found a great testament to the quality of the XD

A guy I work with has an XD that he has put over 19k rounds through and did a string of nearly 2k without cleaning and shooting it limp wristed with no failures using high pressure dirty ammo :fire

sounds like a winner to me
