I am right handed and will be carrying a 1911 commander with a 4" barrel. I need to find a holster that will be comfortable to wear while sitting down at the office for 8 hours a day. I'd prefer not to wear a holster that slings the gun accross the chest or on the outside of a pair of shorts. Would an "inside waist band" holster be comfortable and easy to access while sitting down in vehicle? Any suggestions? I've been looking at the Uncle Mike's IWB conceal carry holsters because they "block persperation" from reaching the pistol...

Unfortunately, holsters are like clothes. Just becuase a shirt says "Large" and you wear a large doesn't mean the shirt will fit you. Every holster is made differently, and unfortunately you need to try them on before purchasing, if possible. Most will tell you to go the route of the custom holster if comfort is important to you. But since everyone's body frame is different, that doesn't necessarily mean a custom holster will fit any better than a name brand, mass produced holster.

For your needs, you will need to search for a "tuckable" holster, which allows you to tuck a shirt over the gun so it doesn't get exposed. Not all IWB are tuckable, which would require you to wear an untucked shirt over it.

I use a Desantis Tucker for my Taurus PT-111. IWB tuckable and has a pouch for a spare Mag. I work in an office and wear it always. Is it the perfect holster for me. Nope, but it is fairly comfortable and carries the gun pretty well. I am happy with it.

I usually take my holster/gun off and leave it in my desk drawer, but I sometimes forget my Blade-Tech UCH is on and end up wearing it all day. Very comfortable holster!

I spend a lot of time working at a desk. The Comp-tac MTAC holster has been a dream come true for me. It's got a good range of adjustment so you can tailor it to fit you. I carry a 5" 1911 most of the time and it never gets uncomfortable.

+1 While I have very little experience with this holster, it is the most comfortable one I have ever worn while seated at a desk or in a car.

+2 I have the Comp-Tac Minotaur for my XD 45, Glock 22, and Beretta M9. Very nice holsters!

Holsters are not comfortable. Of course, holsters are not uncomfortable either. In the majority of cases, comfort is not related directly to the holster but there can be some exceptions for really poor design and choice of materials. If you wear a holster made out of old nylon socks, that attaches to your body by one single support point behind the holster, I will agree that it may be uncomfortable to have your gun swinging back and forth with each step.

Comfort is far more likely to be a product of your choice of gun, the belt used, and; most importantly; where and how you carry the gun.

A Beretta M9 worn IWB in the appendix location is not likely to be comfortable. Almost anything worn MOB/SOB is likely not going to be comfortable sitting or driving.

Choose your gun well, use a GOOD carry belt and locate the weapon appropriately and your comfort will not be an issue.

I'm in and out of an office chair all day and often drive 5 to 6 hours to get to gun shows but my gun and holster are never an issue of comfort and I'm wearing if I'm awake. I carry OWB most of the time and IWB sometimes and, even, use my shoulder rig from time to time but I never find comfort an issue. I attribute that to my choice of guns and where I carry them but not to the holster.

A holster is just a place to park a gun. It's up to you to provide a good support foundation (belt) and to locate it properly for comfort, concealment and easy access.

Comfort is not a quality that can be assigned to most holsters.

For those that may disagree, I ask this. What is the quality that differentiates a "comfortable" holster from one that is uncomfortable and is this quality consistent from one holster to another?

I leave my pistol secured in my vehicle..but I wear the holster all day...not just at work, ALL day, I have a 1991A1 all steel 5" too

+3 or 4 whatever number I am the MTAC is the most comfortable holster I have worn to date. I probably wear mine for 8-10 hours a day at work and then another 3-4 hours a day at home. I have never gotten uncomfortable when wearing it.

I wear the Comp-tac Minotaur with my combat commander. No problems. I wear it 3:30 or 4. I won't say it is comfortable with commander, it's the best I have found, yet.

I am slightly more comfortable with a Comp-tac Minotaur and my XD45c, simply because it's lighter and the grip is shorter.

there are other holsters that are good, too. helps quite a bit if you have a good belt, too!

Spend the money and get a good belt and holster. You may want bigger pants as well if you go IWB. If you tuck your shirt you should look at a holster that is "tuckable". Many holsters also come with sweat guards or can be made to have one. Best way I have found is to do a web search or go to a "Concealed Carry" online store where they have pics and maybe reviews of many different holsters. You would be better off, in my opinion, to narrow down your search and then ask about a specific type. Uncle Mikes IWB holsters are garbage and not worth the money. You will have to spend money on a good holster and belt if you want to get what you posted about. Don't spend $500.00+ on a firearm and then put it in a $10 holster and think that will do. Experience has told most of us, if not all, that doesn't work.

I personally use a $40+ holster with a $120 belt. That is just about minimum you will spend. Use what you can get now if you don't have the money but save for better equipment. It might be the difference between life and death one day.
