Problem with my SIG

I had a great day at the range....I got to hang out with Seadawg and Elgato, which was delightful as always! I banged out around 400 rounds today out of my P226 9mm and on the last five magazines the slide would not remain open. I realize that the first things to pop into my mind was magazine problem..........but it occured with both magazines. Has anyone else ever had this occur with a SIG or other semi?? The weapon never failed to fire, but it was ready to go to another cycle with no round in the chamber. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Give the gun a righteous cleaning. Take the mags apart and clean them too. Sounds to me like it might just be really dirty after 400 rounds in one session.

If you insert an empty mag in the gun and pull the slide back does it lock open?

Thanks Highvelocity!!
It is ironic that I am sitting here with the slide in my lap....Maybe it is just dirty, I would like to think 400 rounds should be no problem in one session, but maybe that is not the nature of the beast. I am going to clean it really well and try again tomorrow. It gives me another excuse to get out there and shoot a few more. Take care.

I used to keep my guns dry. By that I mean I would wipe them down with a rag, slide and frame, before reassembly. I had the same problem, slide not locking back after last shot. Some one suggested I put a light coat of grease on the frame and the slide.

Ever since I started to use grease I have not had the slide fail to lock open after the last shot.

Also a wornout mag spring can cause a problem. I got some used LEO mags from CDNN for my P229. They wouldn't lock the slide back cycling by hand!
New Wolff mag springs cured that.

I followed the advice of the earlier post and cleaned the pistol really reallly well. Although the gun was very clean and lubed before shooting it, the 400 rounds must have accumulated enough trash to cause the malfunction. I agree that I should run my semi autos a bit greasier! I will start that habit with this cleaning. After the cleaning.....I was able to put 150 rounds through my little Sig flawlessly. She is back in action
I thought it might be time for a trip to the factory for her after this ordeal....she has some miles on her! Take care.
