You might get very mixed reviews here. Seems like people either like Taurus revolvers or they cuss them.

I own two Taurus revolvers, an old 65 and a newer 85. Both have operated great. Only failures I've had with the 65 were related to letting the cylinder get too dirty to turn easily. I shot the 65 in IDPA for ~ a year, it did well. I don't have experience with the Tracker line of wheelguns though, maybe someone else here does.

In short, I like Taurus revolvers and would recommend them if they fit your budget. However check out the revolver very well before you put your money down on it, make sure the timing looks correct, lockup is good, and the cylinder-to-forcing cone gap is adequate. Seems like these are the three major gripes I hear about Taurus wheelguns.

Taurus makes good revolvers. I have owned an older 85 and now have a 605 and both are high quality with no issues.

I believe that they had several problems in the past, however their new products are fantastic and come with a lifetime warranty.

I haven't had any trouble at all with my 651SS... I'm not a wheel gun afficianado, so for the dollar vs. quality it was a deal I couldn't pass up.

i had the Ultra light in 38, never a problem...up untill it was stolen, I am sure it's still performing well for some one else.

I would not hesitate to replace with one just like it... probibly will this summer when it gets hot,

I have a used Taurus 85 and have no complaints about it at all. I also had a Rossi (which is owned by Taurus -- don't know if the manufacturing is combined) .357 snub that I bought used, had a little timing issue adjusted for free by the shop where I bought it, and it worked well also. I have their Titanium .357 Tracker 6-inch on my wish list also...

I have a Tracker in .44 Magnum, and while it hurts the hands to shoot (5 shots, same size as a S&W K/L frame), it's quite fun. I've not had any problems with it to date.

One of these days, I'll get around to loading up some light (.44 Special) defense loads with it, as that's what it's intended for...

I have a Taurus 605 that I've been happy with.

I've got a trip this summer up into bear country that I have been thinking about getting one of these very guns for. This is just a camping trip, but I'm thinking my .45 might not be enough for personal defense...

I have a 2" Tracker in 44mag but I only shoot 44spl in it. I have not had any problems with it but I do not shoot it very often. I got it for a low cost backup, throw around the truck gun. It was a good buy for my purpose. Loaded with 44spl Corbon 165gr HP I consider it more than adequate for self defense.

I owned several Taurus revolvers, Ultralight .38, 651 Protector and 4" .357. I sold them all last month. The problems I had on all the models were all the same: cylinder not locking and bad timing.

In comparison, I took the money and bought 2 Smith's--a J Frame Bodyguard model 638 and a L Frame 4" 7 shot .357 Model 686 Plus--I currently carry the J frame as a BUG while on detail and pack the 686 when I go in the woods.

To sum it up: I feel Taurus revolvers are not dependable guns--notice I did not say they were "bad" guns--but in a carry situation Dependable is what sums it up. Add to this Taurus Warranty Service is Terrible. On the Flip Side--(not that I have evr needed it)if you ever have a problem with a Smith Gun--call them, the next day you will receive a pre paid box to send the gun back and depending on the situation-- in under a week you will either get your gun repaired or a brand new gun. I will pay a little more for that.

I realize the allure of Taurus/Rossi/Charter is their prices for the working man--but is price what should drive you when you buy a gun to protect yourself from 2 or 4 legged creatures!!??

Call me elitist and crazy--I will pay more money for a reliable gun any day--wouldn't you? My .02
