cops with 1911s

#1

Post by lunchbox »

i saw a cop with a 1911 the other day and i asked him about it because i thought that most pds would not alow the officers to carry a single action
he told me it was part of a government program that is giving old army 1911s (original GI ones from the war) to departments to issue to officers i thought that was an interesting tidbit for anyone who wanted to know

Doubt they'd have enough, but it makes me wish they'd give those to Border Patrol. Maybe then they'd let me carry my Springfield Champion. :biggrinjester:

i also say a state trooper once that had a realy nice 1911 and a woman (who had no clue) came up to him and said " sir did you know your gun is cocked?" he said "yes?" the woman replyed "isnt that dangerous" and the officer said "isnt that the point" :fire

There are several smaller PDs in my area that either issue or allow the Officers to carry 1911s

As I sit here with a Taurus 1911 on my hip, I am glad my department allows us to carry them. We have about 25% of our agents carrying 1911's, about 30% carrying Glocks, about 30% carrying the issue weapon (mostly M&P's but a few older Smith 4303's), and the rest a mixture to small to break out.

I will have to check on the government giving out 1911's. I bet I could talk our chief into getting some.

Two of the four departments in my county issue 1911s (Kimbers to be precise). Of the two that don't is our one man Constable's office (He carries his own personal Glock), and the second (a two man department) has the officers supply their own equipment.

I was in Galveston last year for a wedding, and noticed that the cop working security had a 1911. I asked him about it, and apparently quite a few officers there carry 1911s.
