Small gun for lefties

I am incredibly left handed. I currently have a Ruger P95, which has ambidextrous safety and mag release that work fairly well for me. I've been looking for a sub-compact gun that feels comfortable and has an ambidextrous (or lefty friendly) mag release. A lot of the small guns I've held either have an odd feel to them (the KelTec p3at's mag release is in a weird spot for a lefty) or they don't have easily reachable safety/mag release (Bersa Thunder 380).

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum Sceneshopsninja,

I'm a lefty as well. I find that for cost and size, the Glock 27 (chambered .40SW) works well. The mag release can easily be ported to your thumb side/left hand if it is more comfortable for you. I chose not to. Being a lefty you probably are also used to 'adjusting' to right handed tools. I use my left index (trigger) finger to release the magazine. It takes some getting used to but if that isn't comfortable, just switch the button to the other side. Get yourself to a gunshow you may find a used one. My thought is that the release button may be broken in more, save you some time and achy fingers! :fire

Hope this helps!

Kahr P9 would suit you well.

The mag. release could be easily reached with your index finger, very compact, reliable.

Slide would be released by reaching over the top and racking it.

Just one suggestion.

If you're looking for a sub-compact, I'll through out the Rohrbaugh R-9 for your consideration. Mine's in my pocket whenever I'm not at work... Pluses are its small overall size, 9MM caliber, and overall build quality. Euro style mag release on butt of grip is not the fastest method, but probably better for a lefty than a gun mande for a righty. On the negative side, they are expensive, not too much fun to shoot (recoil is strong), and they are hard on recoil springs (suggested replacement interval is 100 rounds). Not a range gun/plinker by any means, but mine has ~ 300 flawless rounds through it, is carried everyday, and I trust it with my life...

The S&W M&P compact is very nice and I think it has the features you desire.

+1 on jbirds1210's post. I like my M&P9c.

I am a righty with small hands and choose to put my mag release on the right side. I use my middle finger to hit the mag release. It is very fast and I don't have to change my grip to do it. That said as a lefty you could hit the mag release the same way and choose any gun you wanted!
