Man dressed as Santa robs bank
By NATHANIEL JONES Star-Telegram Staff Writer ARLINGTON --
This is definitely not the Christmas spirit.
Arlington police are searching for a man who donned a Santa Claus jacket and red stocking cap to rob a Wachovia bank Tuesday morning.
Christy Gilfour, Arlington police spokeswoman, said the robbery occurred at about 9:20 a.m. at the branch in the 5600 block of Southwest Green Oaks Boulevard.
"During the robbery, the suspect pulled the Santa hat over his eyes and looked out through two holes cut into the hat," Gilfour stated in a news release. "He indicated to the teller that he had a gun, but no weapon was seen.
"After the robbery, the suspect fled in a gray or silver car and headed north on Green Oaks, possibly toward Interstate 20."
Gilfour added that witnesses saw the suspect outside the bank without the hat covering his face. She said they described him as white, about 6 feet 2, muscular and weighing about 230 pounds.
They also said he had dark hair, dark eyes and a "5 o'clock shadow" on his face.
The suspect’s Santa jacket had black buttons and was trimmed with white fur around the wrists and ankles. His pants were khakis, and he wore white tennis shoes.
Gilfour said anyone with information about the robbery should call Arlington police at (817) 459-5667.
Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 by calling Crime Stoppers at (817) 469-TIPS, Gilfour said.
