Range bag, hearing protection, and eye protection recs?
I have a gift card to a local store that sells shooting gear and was thinking of putting together a range bag. Any recs on what you have for a range bag and what you keep in it?
I'm also not sure what to look for in ear and eye protection -- any suggestions?
I'm fairly new to shooting, so I'm not sure exactly what I need to look for...

After much equipment abuse, these are the things that have proven themselves to be the best for me; i-shot pro shooters bag, Oakley or WileyX shooting glasses (clear lenses) and Peltor muffs.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

I have always used "tackle bags" with several zippered pockets on the outside of the main compartment. They can be found for under 20 bucks, so 2 or three set aside for various purposes won't break the bank. I keep one with 100 rounds of 12 guage range ammo, bore snake, screw drivers, glasses, ear plugs, choke tubes, and other shotgunning stuff. Another bag for rifle stuff and rifle ammo that could be used for "bug out" if needed. And one bag that sees the most action for handgun stuff. The handgun bag always has small tools, extra ear plugs, various ammo, Ruger 22/45 (always in it's case in the bag) and the weapons of the day. All my gun bags are ready to go... just add gun
As for hearing, I prefer plugs most of the time since muffs just don't normally want to cooperate with long guns.
On a budget, I could outfit myself adequately for a hundred bucks.

It's not gun control that we need, it's soul control!

Range Bag +
Of all of the range bags I have used over the past four decades, I like the Home Depot super heavy duty bags the best. They come in small, medium, and large, have many pockets, and last almost forever. As for glasses, I used Gargoyles 85s for years and I am currently using Wiley X PT3s with changeable lenses. The PT3s are superb ballistic (mil-spec) safety glasses with prescription insert capability. They also look nice off the range. I like my Peltor electronic earmuffs and I also use custom made plugs. I have my cleaning gear, mags for all of the firearms I will use at a given session, sunscreen/mosquito repellant, and a small bag of tools including any hex wrench I may use, sight tools, spare parts, timer, etc.

Glasses: Bolle Vigilantes and Wiley-X, both with interchangeable lenses. I used Gargoyles for years, until they finally came apart earlier this year (hence the Wiley's). Sportsmans Guide had Wiley's at a great price a while back, so you might check their website.
Hearing: A combination of soft gel plugs and Peltor muffs that go behind the head rather than over.
Bag: a more or less half-size carry-on suitcase w/wheels and an extendable handle. Holds ten boxes of ammo, five to six individually-cased handguns, targets, stapler, small multi-tool, small bottle of gun oil, muffs and glasses. Always keep a hat, sunscreen, bug repellent, and those individually-wrapped hand wipes in the truck. No kitchen sink however....

ear protection
i prefer ear muffs for protection over the plugs
sometimes they are too difficult to put in...
as far as brand?
they all function the same, color and weight would probably be the only decision you would face.
range bag
i-shot company makes some GREEAT range bags
a friend also purchased one from midwayusa and that one is also VERY VERY nice.
eye protection
i use any cheap kind.
regardless what kind you purchase they function the same

flb78, I got you beat!!!!
I use a Blue Bell Tote bag for ear muffs, hat, NRA shooter's guide, extra towel, paper plates, felt tip markers, staple gun, etc., and a plastic grocery bag for ammo. Ha! Ha! Ha! Hubby says I have to get a plastic shoe box, but that costs money that I could use for bullets.
I figure the gun doesn't "care," and I then have more money to buy bullets!
I looked long and hard for ear muffs that were NOT made in China ... just in case they, too, were poisoned. I found them at ProDefense in Webster, TX.
Q: When is it time to stop target practice and go home?
A: When you're out of ammo.
